Destination Trance®: Back For Seconds
I was going to do a progressive house mix, but I changed my mind and opted for a trance theme instead. I haven’t done a trance mix since December of ’05 and I’ve been dying to do another one. Anyhow here is a new set for July which I know you’ll enjoy. Have fun and comments are welcome as they keep me motivated to release more sets.

1) Flash Brothers - Faith In Love
2) Tilt - New Day (David West Remix)
3) Late Night Alumni - Empty Streets (Haji & Emanuel Remix)
4) Aspekt - Hijack (Instrumental Mix)

6) Gareth Emery - Between Dreams
7) Alex Arestegui - Proem (Mike Shiver Remix)
8) Fable - Above
9) Above & Beyond - No One On Earth (San Francisco Dub Mix)
10)Kyau vs. Albert - Kiksu

That's great Mon-Soon thanks! Why aren't you coming with any new sets lately mister.
woohoo! your mix caused that my time at the office went sooo fast! Lovely mix for Friday noon
Nice opening track, then David West remix - great tune which may not be that good for easy listening. Fortunately you played it right after the opener, so it absorbed me. Nice transition into Empty Streets! More housey-dancey now. Haji and Emanuel did a great thing with this chill song. 10/10 for the first 18 minutes. Then comes Hijack and it was a bit of distraction for me. Maybe if the transition was more subtle... however this is not the best track to follow Haji & Emanuel IMHO. After that more sweet trance comes to my ear. Sequential is a perfect filler as it does not take that much attention. Beautiful track though. Wonder why you kept it for 2-3 minutes only. Between Dreams (correct the tracklist) is one of my favs by GTR. I always get a gooseflesh on that pump at 28:25
I noticed beatmatching issue when the beat came but you repaired it instantly. I didnt know Proem, track is decent and suits here. Tricky and original transition from Above to No One On Earth. A little softer trance now. o ho! Kiksu's coming! You keep the flow! superb!. With Perfect Silence I can feel something's gonna change. You are speeding up. I looked at time expecting the mix to end. Not because it was boring! It was obvious you are heading to finish your set. But then Mauro Picotto came and it totally owned me. Haven't heard that before! It reminded me your Techno set. It is far better track to end the set than Reflekt, so good choice. Overall 9/10. You nicely tried to match tracks in pairs having similar sounds to follow (vide New Day -> Empty Streets), but often I sensed a clash with the keys of melodies (that's my weakness lately
) All in all I enjoyed your mix very much. Thanks!
as for my mixes: you can expect new one in a short time
cheers

got this a while back, sorry i didn't review sooner.
very nice stuff here. overall a wonderfully refreshing mix full of great tunes progressing in a tight manner. of the programming the best word that comes to mind is fresh. but the tracks not so much.
awesome intro track. very good choice. next two tracks are great as well. i'd say the best part of the mix is the first three or four tracks. you know i love that mix of New Day and that mix of Empty Streets is killer. as said, very refreshing choices as far as programming... here in the beginning especially. you continue the fresh choices all the way to the end; dispersing many different forms of trance.
transitions are spot on. nothing i noticed was too off. a couple itchy beat matches but nothing that bothered me too much or is to be concerned about imo. if the transition doesn't take me out of the groove then it should be considered satisfactory.
no i think at this point in your djing progress you should focus on track selection and programming. not saying your's is bad, as i said it's very refreshing and well done. starting soft, groovy tracks, moving into more emotional stuff, then getting darker towards the end. but i do have a few grips, mostly personal but possibly useful:
i normally don't have a problem with this but for me the tracks were on the old side. too many of the tracks were just tired for me. as said you do progress in a refreshing way, the next track is always a pleasantly surprising choice. but a lot of the tracks themselves were dusty imo, sort of a “been there” type thing. obviously for those newer to trance, this wouldn’t be a problem. if you understand what i mean by this then congratulations. i normally don't mind having older tracks, but i think one of the dj's jobs is to be on the cutting edge of the music. it's def ok to cater to people who aren't as trance savvy but i think it shows when your set is showcasing a current sound. i think there is something somewhat intangible about it, but it's there.
anyway that said (which is a more personal gripe) i also think that you could have focused on something that i've always had trouble with in your sets. that is style, or maybe better described as personality. and i'm not just saying this because this mix is varied. you previous prog trance set i remember saying was too consistent for the majority of it and could have used variety. which you did here. this is different, this is more about the feel i get about you as a dj. i don't know if i'm alone on this but this is one of the main things i take away from a dj; his 'style factor' or personality. it's best described as an overall feeling from hearing the a dj's mix. it's a lot like seeing someone’s real personality. the greater and more effective it is the more you remember that person. same goes with sets. this is something that i believe is incredibly intangible and cannot directly be augmented. it just has to come with experience and inspiration. i am not insinuating that my stuff has it either, although i'd like to think it does, it's not something i can really grasp about myself. but i am very aware of it from others. i am aware you have a particular style (or track choices) and i see it somewhat. i see you tend to lean toward more soothing and soft tracks. tracks that create euphoria while pulling energy when you can. i think you should embrace this. i think maybe you should focus less on the logistics of the mix (varied tracks, transitions, programming etc.) and just start off with the tracks that are really inspiring you at the moment. idk, just say to yourself "what's my favorite thing about trance (or EDM in general)?" and just try and put it in.
this is what i do because really it's what keeps me coming back to it. it's that thing you're in love with at the moment and that thing you would love to see in a set and you just f-ing do it!
lol, geezis i babbled a lot! i hope i don't seem arrogant or 'know it all' or something. this is really just typing as i think. and if you understood what i mean that's great. if not no biggie, just glad i can vent about this stuff. i am very analytical and this stuff is fun for me to think about and try and master. the feeling of a set, the flow, programming etc. i think because it's such a intangible thing, a great set that is, and it's hard to pin down with just the topics i've discussed. yet it is somewhat attainable with experience and focus. similar to martial arts maybe.
lol
anyway great set. always good to hear music from you and glad your a consistent member of the forums.
cheers.

Just finished listening to this a thought it was a pretty good mix! Thought the tune selection was very good, structure could of been slightly better imo The mix picks up around tracks 5, 6 and 7 then tends to drop off slightly for a couple of tracks then picks back up again, however each track did seem to flow together!! I also notice a couple of slipped beats but nothing to much to worry about!!
Where you pick up the Reflekt tune from?
hehe I like when metatron writes about intangible factors
I feel it pretty the same. Especially liked the 'personality' part of elaboration. It really speaks to me. On the other hand I understand why stevieboy's sets vary much. When you enjoy so many genres of EDM you just can't pick youself one and do recurrent, equal mixes. You want to fully express your love for the music.

i thouroughly enjoyed the mix, like others said some of the tracks are old, but i thought it flowed real well. I would consider this chilled trance, i'm more into the fast, hard hitting stuff, so this was a nice change.
Just got this. Giving it a listen now. I hope it makes Thursday afternoon pass more smoothly.
