I smoked heavily for many years, and have now quit for 3 years. I used a product which is called Zyban, a hectic schedule 5 drug that contains small doses of an anti-depressant. It takes away the satisfaction of having a cigarette, so you start smoking more at first, then it just becomes pointless, so you give up. I don't know if it's available where you are, but it's made by Glaxo Smithkline, so maybe. Here's the UK website:

http://www.zyban.co.uk/

It really works, but you need a doctor to prescribe it.

After I got out of the army I just stopped. No gimmicks.

Then again I never really smoked much anyway, only when I was stressed out.

Although I've never tried Zyban, when I quit smoking, this is what I want to do, a co-worker of mine used it, and hasn't smoked since.

I honestly think this is the only reasonable way to quit, I've quit cold turkey in the past for the longest of 3 months, and every day of that 3 months I wanted a cigarette.

Zyban FTW!

quitters never win

I quit smoking every night when I go to bed.

Yea, Zyban helped me deal with the cravings too, I never even crave a smoke anymore. I can be with people who smoke anytime, doesn't bother me in the least. My girlfriend also used it and it worked for her too.

i just wanted to give up so i did.

Lollipops kid of helped. So did going to the gym. Or sort of excercise is good. When you have got some excercise and are coughing your lungs up afterwards and feel like getting sick the last thing you want is a smoke, so that helped.

Zyban did it for me. The next thing i knew i didnt even wanna smoke. The smell was not appealing at all. But i was eating like 4-5 pills a day when ur only supposed to take 2. But the side effect was depression. At the time i really didnt know what depression was. Well i gotta wake up call. Then i didnt renew my presciption & started smoking again.
