Idea I'm working on a new track..but is the melody really mine?

I hope this is the right forum.. I've been working with this track for about a week now, counting all primitive ideas and transformations. I just started wondering, cause it sound familiar somehow, is the melody really mine or is my mind just playing with me and telling me to rewrite someone else's melody? I wanna be sure it doesn't sound like something else already out there (considering only the melody, sound design and arrangement clics are not the point here.. )

So here's the clip:

Mikk - Arching Waves

Other comments are welcome too of course, but the melody is my main concern. Oh, I will probably get rid of the breakbeat part..

It's pretty much standard trance so no wonder it sounds familiar. however it does sound well I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

Ok thanks Storyteller Yeah well it probably sounds a little like a lot of trance tunes I think I'll finish it with this melody then.. At the end of this clip when the main part goes around second time I'll add some simple melody with piano or other acoustic instument..or some raw gliding pad sidechain pumped by the bassdrum

Yeah the melodies ok, but there's something not right about the 303 type sound just before the four to the floor beat kicks in. It sounds a bit weird because it's pitched down

The chord progression sounds a bit like Delerium - Silence.
I don't think you need to worry though, alot of released tracks sound alike.

Listen to this sample of...
Cygnus X - Superstring, Kyoto - 4 Love and Madonna - What It Feels Like For A Girl (Above & Beyond Remix)

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.p...E90932B5BFF6311

They all kind of sound alike, but they're still different.

well produced but.. boring melody.. i wish i could say it sounds like something i know.. but when something is used enough, no one is in the position to claim it.

Posted by Aquarian on Jul-04-2006 15:54:

That's happened to me quite alot actually. Most likely you've just become very 'intimate' with your melody after hearing it so many times, and now you have the impression that you've heard it before (because you have!)

nice track! . something i'd buy to chill to...

Posted by Low Profile on Jul-04-2006 20:30:

The chord progression with that plucked sound sounds very familiar, but I can't quite nail the song (maybe Ayla??). Anyways, it's different enough from the track I'm thinking about to pass as an original

Aalto - Rush (Super8 vs. Orkidea Remix)... that's the one

Posted by djAlexg on Jul-05-2006 02:20:

standart anjunabeats imo

Posted by optik on Jul-05-2006 09:21:

it is a bit alto rush-ey - but not enough for a standard club punter to notice, and I've allways had my doubts if you can legitimatley copyright arpegiated chords..

it doesn't sound enough like rush to be a problem imho

Posted by Mikk on Jul-05-2006 11:25:

Oh yes, Aalto - Rush, that's the one it reminded me of..thanks Not all similar but some parts are quite like it. Yeah, the track is quite standard. The more I work on it the more I feel so. It doesn't have that extra something it would need. I'll finish it anyway to get it out of my mind, as another tune that'll stay on my hard drive only.

Posted by optik on Jul-05-2006 16:54:

there isn't anything wrong with it being "standard anjuna" - anjuna consistantly sign big selling tracks that drop well in clubs.

whats not to like?

Posted by Mikk on Jul-05-2006 19:02:

Well..I actually like the anjuna-kind of trance a lot But I'd like to get something rememberable and different on my tracks..this one atm doesn't have any particularly strong melodic elements or sounds that catch the listeners attention

Posted by ASFSE on Jul-05-2006 21:10:

sounds standard, sounds good

Posted by wizniz on Jul-06-2006 01:10:

i like it a lot... lol

Posted by mysticalninja on Jul-06-2006 05:05:

I'm not too fond of that build up, but I also like it alot when it all drops in. =)

Posted by emc^2 on Jul-12-2006 04:43:

I fucking love it. It sounds close enough to be mistaken for Anjuna choon but it's a good thing, IMHO.

I wish I could make melody and progression like that.

What did you use to make it? Any samples or all self-made?

Finish it, for sure!

Posted by Drazzic on Jul-12-2006 10:13:

Doesn't matter this track make me feel good! Nice.

Posted by cherrybarry on Jul-13-2006 02:27:

good track...i think the pads would sound better if it were less choir-y and more string-y...idk hard to explain

Posted by Mikk on Jul-13-2006 10:28:

Thanks for all the kind comments I know what you mean cherrybarry..there was a certain choiry tone on the pads that I didn't like either.

I haven't worked with this tune lately. Here's the latest clip anyway, a bit longer than the first one:

Clip 2

The mix is a mess and I don't know what to do about it. I've been trying to forget the whole tune so I could come back later with a better point of view and finish it.

emc^2 only the drums are samples played with Halion. I used Novation Nova and V-Station, Roland JP-8000, Oberheim Matrix-1000, Korg Wavestation and my diy SID synth on this tune.

Posted by optik on Jul-13-2006 11:23:

why don't you just follow the arp of the first four bars in the melody in the second four - that way it would sound nothing like rush. - I mean mid low high, mid low high rather than the second four bars which are high, mid, low

Posted by RickyM on Jul-13-2006 11:23:

Sounds really good when it all kicks in, just lose that breakbeat section .
The melody is perfectly fine, I like it a lot.
