Thanks to everyone who came to AHP

hey guys, just got back to the UK and i want to say thanks to everyone who came to Afterhour Power on sat night at Avalon, i got there early to catch some of Danny's set which was great as per normal. i played from 4.15 till 7am and it was rocking from my first track to my last. ive now played AHP 5 times and that was by far my best one yet for crowd reaction, can't wait to come back now. im off to get some zzzzzzzzsssss

ciao

Monkey Dancer 2

Thanks for tearing it up as well. (I was the long haired gogo dancer dancing my arse off), I was stoked when you played Thrillseekers too. It was nice to hear tracks from a couple years ago as well that wasn't intense trance!! Anyway, good times!!

i'm glad u had a fun time spinning, and i'm sure your set rocked.... but can u please take AHP and move it to another venue? No offense, but AHP is the worst thing that ever happened to Avalon.

Ya like what..... 5 years ago? haha

I think the only time I was at AHP was back in october when Holden was there. The curtains went down, then went back up to reveal the most flamboyent circus act I have ever seen. It was matt darey with two dancers backing him up, one was a guy wearing leather and cuffs.

I would't have a problem with it if they at least waited until the headliner of the night is completely done with his set, and then they can continue with AHP.

my .02 cents.
(that's all my broke-ass has )

Hey man, glad you had a good time here. Unfortuantely, I would have missed your set becaues AHP = time to leave for me and most people I know. Everytime I have been at Avalon, AHP has killed whatever good vibe was going on. Bad music and scary people. No thanks. I bolt for the door the second the headliner is done. And on the way out, I'm always reminded why I'm leaving as I walk past all the crackheads trying to get in. I'm sure I've missed a few good DJs but I've missed alot of bad ones.

AHP can do whatever they want and obviously they have a crowd they are catering to. I just wish they were somewhere else so they didn't have to ruin every other night at Avalon.

sorry to hear your comments on AHP guys. my personal opinion is that every time i have played for AHP it has been great with a great crowd. i always get looked after very well by the AHP guys and after i'm finished playing we always have a blast in the house room upstairs.
everyone to their own and all that.
i had a good one and im looking forward to next time.

Doing what? Rails of coc with Steve Crapo?

Sorry, not trying to seem like a bitch. just giving a piece of my mind (and almost everyone else's mind) about AHP.

I'm not gonna back you up for saying shit like that to someone you dont even know...because that is rude.

I'm not the biggest AHP fan as they do usually cut the headliners off a bit prematurely, but this is hardly Paul's fault...he was asked to come and play, and apparantley he did a good job. I had to go find a drunken tigo at 4am so I didnt catch any of his set, but hats off.

Bottom line is, AHP makes alot of money, and in this industry that is the only bottom line.

your idea of having a blast is obviously a bit different from mine i'm afraid, my good time involves listening to a good dj playing good sounds. i assume you mean drugs with your above comment which is very rude considering you don't know me and i am offended by that as believe it or not... NOT ALL DJS TAKE DRUGS!

if you don't like AHP events thats fine but don't come on a public board accussing people of taking drugs please.

Posted by R!CH on Jul-04-2006 22:03:

hey paul, i haven't heard you spin so i really can't comment on your performance, nor do i doubt for a second that outside talent brought in for ahp is probably leaps and bounds better than what i've heard, but my thoughts on afterhour power in general is that it is total crap. my first encounter was on new years after sander k and i can say i've never been more pissed off about hearing music in a club, every track, every transition, every stupid mc line was agony. this mainly applies to the ahp local djs, but i've never heard a more godawful performance in my life. i am bewildered by the juxtaposition of talent offered in this 'premiere' night club. the ONE time i was showered with great music the entire night at avalon was for steve lawler, and this made the whole experience so much better! anyway, my point here isn't to piss all over your thread, but if avalon promoters are reading this and if paul mendez was indeed as well received during his ahp set, maybe avalon should look into outsourcing more for ahp... just a thought!

i admit i was being rude. sorry. but i still think ahp is the worst thing that happened to avalon.

Smiley DJ

Apoligy accepted, hey i just wanted to come on the board and say thanks to the crowd at AHP for my set at the weekend, i am not there every week or month etc. so i don't know what the situation is with Avalon and AHP and to be honest its nothing at all to do with me, AHP book me for their events and i go and play. Apart from that hopefully see u guys soon and for the ones that have not heard me play check my website or my record label.

I have 0 problems with AHP, i think a lot of it us rudeness from "yah me too!" people on internet forums and everyone gangs up with it. Paul, im sorry i missed your set, by the time ATB was done at spundae i was with some people who were really tired and didnt want to go, or else for sure id have been there. Glad it went awesome and ill definetly catch you next time. And dont listen to these fools on the forum, they mostly have no lives and sit here and complain about the stupidest things. The true trance scene loves trance and thats that.

I'm sure you wouldn't be complaining if a Funky House group came into circus at 3am and dropped a giant curtain on the headlining trance DJ before he was done, reset the vibe he had created, and sent the music on a complete 180 into something you really cant stand.

+1. They get to charge for parking all over again, they get to charge a ridiculous cover to get in, I'm sure the Reb Bull sales go through the roof, and then at 6 am they get to sell ETOH to people with no self control and a good amount of money to waste. They could give two shits about the vibe because the vibe doesn't put money in their pockets or girls in their beds.

I would grab Yunior Chabezzzz by his hair and toss him to the horny, sweaty Area boys just outside zee Circus.

paul, sounds like your set was great. the thing is the comments that have been made on this thread are from people that have had bad experiences with it. i have experienced several myself but it doesn't sound like this was the case with yours. i think the thing is that people just wished that AHP would think about the headlining dj and then try to somewhat match their style with the latter or atleast compliament it. i was there the night of holden and that was the worst transition ever maybe next to new years eve and the whole "dj" after sander K. just my 2 cents.

like lex said, the night of lawler was one of the best b/c similar style djs played all night long and had the crowd going crazy until i left at 6:30 am.

Gabriel and Dresden going on after Infected Mushroom was the worst transition ever

rofl. yes. i just stay at home on my ass all day & night and read about parties, and i don't go out at all, and complain about things i dont know about.

If we can equate Avalon with your average dirty toilet with just fresh fecal matter, then AHP is like a toilet filled to the brim with the vomit, feces, urine, and whatever. But it doesnt stop there. No we have to let it ferment in the hot baking sun for 2 years.

God Avalon is already nightmarish AHP just makes it worse. Its as if you've gone to Hell...walking among the cracked out zombies. Kind of scary the way they look at you with their pupils dilated. Theres nothing more horrifying then to walk in that place in the wee morning hours. I remember theyre use to be ads which said AHP catered to upscale clients. Riiiggghhhttt

Then of course there are the plastic go-go dancers with make-up piled up on so high you can see their sweat drenched faces mix with the make-up. Arent go-go dancers suppose to be attractive?
