Trance Fast Mixing?
Hi fellow Trance DJs!
so i belive u guys heard Armin megamix 2005.. 30 tracks in 1 hour
n that was impressive! *of course is Armin mannn!*
so i thinking of mixing trance track... 7 tracks in 10 minute
how did u do that?
before asking... I had experimented it! so im not looking for Tips n so could...
I want to know how others does this?
Thnx ppl!
Cheers,
Altuna

Armins mix was done on Ableton Live. It was all prearranged, not live.
If you wanna mix 7 tracks in 10 minutes, learn your music good. You're gonna have to get creative when mixing it. It's not too easy, but it's doable. I used to do it back in the hardhouse days in the 90's.
Like woody said its all done in Ableton.
This sort of thing works really well with techno or D&B, but trance megamixes sound goddamn awful.

i feel like im one of the few people who still like to play the majority of the entire record instead of all this quick mixing...

Ps. If Armin's putting together 30 odd tracks in an hour, you're trying to up that to 42.. Quite a tall feat if you ask me!
I'd try reducing the number, and obviously you're going to be cutting out both intros and outro's.. In my opinion i'd practise on radio edits, that's just one idea.. Again it's difficult as you'll having to nearly role every 'main' part (would you call it the chorus??) of every song together.. Beat matching, well you'll have virtually no time to get them matched up (i need a few seconds still.. Maybe you're good enough to nail it fast enough though..)
I dunno either way good luck with it.
nelly
that megamix armin did was good but come one who wants to hear only 2mins ov a track and then it changes.
its like you just get into the track and BAM your like wtf NOOOOOOOOO i like that track put it back on NOW lmao
i think megamixes only work on cd compilations not for live events.
the only reason they are used is to kill off sometime THATS IT PERIOD.
i.e Sensation megamix instead of payin out a load more money for another top jock they just make a megamix and watch ppl dance to someone who has just pressed play on the cd player and there aint even a DJ in the booth hahahaha.
plus they do it so the other dj's can prepare themselfs
.
there is alot ov skill init tho as in makin a perfect track list.
to do one you really have to sit down and listen to each track individualy to know the tracks in and out like the back ov your hand type of thing.
if there is ppl readin this who has not tried it i suggest give it a go.
its a learnin curve which in fact makes you better at mixin lol.

Supposedly, Jeff Mills can mix up to 70 tracks in an hour. Go figure.
(Yes, I know that's techno and not trance, but still...)
It can be done with trance and it does work when done right - but an hour of fast mixing gets boring and annoying, in the same way that an hour of tracks allowed to run right down to the beat and bassline in every mix gets boring.
Vary it a bit and you're onto a winner - but I agree you have to be very careful about what tunes you do very quick mixes with and it usually only works a couple of times in a set.
with that many tracks in a mix...sounds like you'd for the most part just play the breakdown, then straight into another breakdown
ok here.. yesterday i done 4 uplifting trance tracks in 10 minutes..
it was a dj competition... and i am qualified
and now i am ask to do 10 tracks in 30 minutes... LOL
mixing trance like this is very stressful! i cant even enjoy the song at all
what do u guys think?
I think its a stupid idea that ruins the entire point of good mixing and good tracks.
10 trance tracks in 30 minutes is just silly. That's an average of 3 minutes per song. Most breakdowns last 3 minutes. Hence I stopped listening to trance
Mixing like that will not get the job done.
Other music styles (techno, house etc.) are better suited for fast mixing. Trance absolutely isn't.
Swell English.
trance has those long ass break downs man... it'd be like... beats for the mixes the a breakdown... then beats the breakdown... baiscally you'd be mixing breakdowns man
