performing when underage [USA]

I'm trying to figure out what it is I have to do to get legal (if needed) permission to play at a club here in LA that is 21 and up. I'm underage (18) and my understanding is I need something. I've called the club and they were no help at all. I've talked to the person who would be booking me and they weren't sure, they just know I need something. So if anyone could point me in the right direction or clear this up for me I would really, really appreciate it.

i honestly dont think you DO need permission...

18 yr olds are allowed to be in a drinking environment

Here nobody really cared, i was playing out when i was 17 (granted the drinking age here is only 18) but the cops rarley come into clubs here

If it's for a job here in California, contact ABC. They will tell you what you need to do.

Thanks, I sent the LA office an E-Mail. Hopefully they'll know what's up.

I've spun at various places, including one of the biggest clubs here underage.

They either don't know..or don't care.

im 15 and i have been told by lots of ppl in the area (promoters and ppl who work at clubs) that i dont need anything special to play in the clubs. i am in canada and i dont know if the rules are different here than in the US. I hope that u do get 2 play.

I was thinking about the same question but im from Victoria in Australia. If your not aloud is it realy going to stop you? I guess I would want to know if I can but then again if I found out by law I could not I would act as if I do not know.

For real?
I know in Oz it used to be the licencing was that a minor could be on the premises before 12 with a responsible adult, but I don't know if that still exists.

cant go wrong with written consent from parents.

I've never had my ID checked as a DJ. If someone hires you for a 21 club just walk in with your records and start getting setup.

"Can I see your ID?"

"Sure" *hold up flyer* "This is me"

Continue walking in.

Hahahahaha try that at Spundae. Everytime I play there, I get checked. Even if we show up before the club opens, security walks around and IDs everyone.

No reply yet, yeah the problem is this club is very strict. So I can't just go in and be a smart ass. :P

well, no one gives a flying crap about the law here, but some clubs did enforce their policies in order to keep the clubs from becoming a kiddieland.

in any case, ive only spun in clubs 3x whilst being underage (when i was 17), had no problems each time. i do look a lot older than i am though. i've been interviewing DJs and such things at events since im 16 tho. just talk to the people in charge. when at the door, if they ask for ID, say you left it at home, any troubles, call the promoter. he'll go out, say 'yo, this is the DJ' and all will be solved, methinks.

not to mention, if you're carrying headphones and a record bag, and at the door say "i'm the DJ", i really doubt any bouncer would stop you. if anything, he may call the promoter to confirm you are the DJ and you don't have to pay cover price.
