If you were to write the ancient Greek word "arete" in the language it was originally written in, what would it look like?

edit: in case you're wondering, it's alpha-rho-epsilon-tau-eta. The stuff you see "on top" of the characters are inflections for speech.

If I'm correct, in the ancient times, Latin was a preliminary language. What does Arete mean?
