wow. this was a pretty solid night. very busy, pretty high energy dancefloor, lots of great tracks. Danny and I were talking early on and he was saying he's not huge into electro and that he needs his music to have more of a solid drive. But in actuality, there's so much progressive that gets played and a lot of this new electro is just a newer form of prog. Definitely retains a lot of similar sounds and energy and a solid thump to it. Heard a few huge tracks last night, and James E played a lot of good stuff. A fair amount of hot girls too. Seems impossible not to have the need to go to Gecko at least once in a weekend now!

I really like some electroish stuff... I just try and steer clear of bandwagon rides.. especially this 'filthy, dirty' etc' one that's currently making the rounds. Not to take anything away from the DJs who play at this night.. I haven't seen them play tbh, so I can't really comment. I love all types of music, though moderation is the key

lol.. "electroish" danny you can say it.. you REALLY like some electro! Especially that certain track which you bug me about that I seem to have misplaced on my comp temporarily!

You silly bastard! I'm going to drag you in there with me next time so you can dispell whatever these weird beliefs you have are! Plenty of energy, plenty of variety, a fair amount of progressive, not to mention a fair amount of GIRLS!

we'll listen to grimy dirty basslines til the cows come home
Not much of a bandwagon for that crowd either, that crew have been hammering the electro/electroprog for ages which is how James E managed to get voted as van's #1 electronic dj. They've got a pretty loyal crew.

vlado and i are pimpin this bitch tonight

Posted by apri_peel on Jul-24-2006 04:14:

so..... pretty fun night
i think i'll be going back to this

some things that need more work:
- djs' mixing skills heh they might be a bit new, so props to the guys for having the guts to get up there and play tunes. the good part is that almost no one probably noticed the shaky transitions, so its all good
- the women.... altho, there was a substantial amount of them, someone pointed out to me that they were ugly. i wasnt really paying attention to them, they seemd alright, but i couldnt really care less. but do bring in more hot guys, i could appreciate that
- the sound was a little too loud. electro has sharp synths and those were just piercing on the ears. actually, vlado and i were gone for an hour looking for a place that sells earplugs in downtown at 12 at night

the good stuff:
- the sound system is quite nice. with speakers placed all around the club it made for a nice auditory experience. the sound was crisp and very clear.
- the women! i finally didnt feel like i was at a sausage party lol
- the atmosphere was great
- the tunes were good, altho just electro got a bit boring after some time

and all in all, definately a good night. it had a good turn out, i thought, for being in a bit of a secluded area and being a new night. props to the promoters. oh and the $4 heineken special is probably well appreciated by naz

LOL! That night was Dave Armstrong (ministry of sound) opening, then Norrie Taylor (spinning since 98ish), and James E (voted CV #1 electronic dj 2005)
hahaha

I have noticed James is not the smoothest technical mixer though definitely.

Posted by rev on Jul-26-2006 20:42:

oh man, i know me and alot of other people that have been witness to some sloppy sets by him :P

Lets hope Julian tops that this Saturday

Posted by Tayfoon on Jul-26-2006 23:35:

James E has lots of "off" nights if you know what I mean

hahaha
actually yea, at first mixing was solid, good tunes, then two guys were tagging and one of them i guess was james

nothing against the guy, but being voted #1 by CV means absolutely nothing to me if you know what i mean

were you there tom? i dont think i saw you

No I was too tired from the Jimmy Van M show and the heat to make it out! Disappointed I didn't see you at the JVM show miss! Jimmy is the man.
