Smiley DJ Trance - Beastie Boys - Intergalactic (Andy French's Remix)

Whats up everyone. I've been listening to a lot of Sander van doorn lately so i've tried to emulate his style in my own reworking of the Beastie Boy's Intergalactic. The clip is the first verse and chorus. Let me know what you all think of this so far...It is a work in progress by the way.

Thanks in advance

Andy French

thanks for comments.
I have updated the link (in the top of the post) with another verse and an interesting little breakdown. Sorry if the mastering is a little off, i'm not very good at that yet. I'm looking forward to your comments. Thanks.

interesting intro. i like it.

sounds quite industrial. this sounds great actually i think a more upront sound could be had from a better mix. bring all the parts up a bit. like your chord synth and your percs. kick is fine. nice and clean.

the main 'intergalactic' vox needs a better introduction into the track. in fact i would not introduce it until after the main human vocal like you have done.

i think the vocals need to be cut down a bit. they make the track a bit cheesy. i would find the best lines and intermittedly drop them here and there.

omg! the main break is great! this is perfect. breakbeat is a bit standard. i would drop it and use some of your other subtle percs.

i would concentrate on a track built around that fantastic break. go purely dub on the main sections. building into that break(for abbout 2-3 mins). drop the vocals totally imo. dont use the intergalactic vocal accept within the break. i think you could make a really sophisticated remake using what you have made here.

great potential matey

Thanks Rich
I'm planning on making a dub of this as well. I don't particularly care much for the the vocals either but i'm making it to spin out at some bars around here...and most people thouroughly despise any form of electronic music unless it is a cheesy remix of something popular. Thanks for the feedback though. Anyone else?

its nice but id do more w/ the percussion

thanks wizniz. I was thinking of making it a bit tribal. Thanks for all the critiques!

Thumbs up

Great stuff....Intergalatic is one of my favorite Beastie Boys songs! Can't wait to see a finished version.

I'm no producer by any means, but I would make the beginning more banging right off the bat.

really good work man, I like what you've done. I agree with richg101 in that you can bring the chordy synth up and perhaps replace some of the vocal sections with the beat and those chords. Was amazed at the progression you brought in in the breakdown, was surprised and it works really well.
nice!

Posted by TigerClaw on Aug-19-2006 19:10:

Well, I just listened to it, And its pretty good. Though normally Rap Music isn't my cup of tea, But its a great remix.

Posted by Andy French on Aug-20-2006 22:45:

Thanks guys. @ pho mo I agree i should bring up the synth thing in there. @ tiger claw - rap isn't what i'm into either i just found the accapella somewhere and thought that it would be an interesting remix...Thanks for the replies...any one else?

hey opening up now...:

like the opening
crash needs to brought up a click or two..
also - i dunno reverse fx... a lil out of mix recompress perhaps..

great sounds! love this opening pre-breakdown..! punchy kick - sits well in mix but should be matched to bass better - therefore prebreakdown bass should be raised.. after the repetitive vocals the bass is fine except actually kick is maybe too loud in comparison still.. its hard to tell im playin at 80% on my monitors and tryin to figure it out...

yeah vocals should drop by seriously 1 click i think now the kick is okay... i see the issue when ur soloing tracks other tracks dBs increase probably cuz of ur panning... thats a fuckin bitch man.. what r u using to mix and master..

this is a really cool remix - not too much variation but it works in a techhousy remix type way

ps
i go to Salis Univ.. i see ur in the area - ill be headin back fri... so.. hit me up man great work man love to hear from ya

spence

btw i really enjoy the slightly detuned breakdown stabs and such but the vocals again need 1 less click man.. personally and bring those "strings" up a few and possibly solo them as u fade out vocals to get a serious epic feel to it... kinda like i did with my new track pre second chorus..

I'm a bit tired so I'll have to be short in words!
I really enjoyed this one mate, great production and arrangement.
A really cool remix of this track! Before I heard this one I couldn't really image how a bangin' remix of it would sound, but I must say you got it good mate!

Keep up the good work!
/Dave

Hey Andy!

Listened to your remix. It is a fun way of combining rap to dance. I would just suggest you use better samples. You could use a more banging kick drum for starters and get more of a bass going underneath the track.

During the break at 4.30 you should also get more melodic momentum going. There a big epic trance break would be nice. You use the Intergalactic vocals instead accompanied with a little pad (very nice melody by the way, it totally fits the track) I would get some big pads going there and then fade out the intergalactic vocal and then get the beat going with a big theme and not let the rap come back after that anymore besides the intergalactic vocal. If you know what I mean.

Overall you got some nice ideas. The vocals fit nicely to the beat. Just get some more professional sounds in mate so it won't sound as thin as it does now.

Cheers!
