Core 2 Duo released !!!

Finally after waiting and reading reviews Intel will release the Core 2 duo this week. Its so cool the lowest model which costs less than 300 Euros beats the Amd fx-62 which costs about 1000 Euros. All Software lovers here in this forum I have to say this is the processor reveloution time,Hope u guys feel the same like I do..or not?

Conroe Benchmarks

Well its decisive. The top 3 Conroes crush the top 3 AMD X2s and FXs.

Heres the killer though.

Conroe E6600 is about the same speed as an AMD FX-62. Only it costs $316. The FX-62 currently costs over $900.

Check out www.anandtech.com for their overclock test on Conroe. They got both the E6600 and E6800 to overclock to 4 ghz on AIR.

Thats a 90% clock speed increase on the E6600 near enough. That thing is looking insane. The common consensus is that if you buy a Conroe, dont bother with the E6700 or the E6800. 6700 is $520 and the 6800 is $999.

Way too much considering the 6600 is already on par with AMD's top of the line chip, uses about half the power, runs alot cooler and overclocks to near double its clock speed without liquid cooling.

E6600 is the one to buy dudes.

yeah i thought the same about it

Very interesting!

Heheh ive been hyping this chip for months(though in the game forum), I pre-ordered the e6600..... 300 dollar chip kills a 1000 dollar chip... Good times we live in lol...

Posted by Zombie0915 on Jul-16-2006 18:57:

what is the best chipset to plug this beast into? What is a good noise free low latency board fir this thing, will it be vulnerable to the same pcie issues as nforce4?

Posted by Derivative on Jul-16-2006 19:24:

Theres not many Conroe chipsets to choose from right at the minute but this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16813128012

seems to be getting the most attention (possibly because its one of the first designed for conroe boards). I think thats the board anand used to get the 4 ghz overclock. Although I would check that article just in case.

Note the release schedule has changed. The E6800 is getting released on the 23rd July. The E6700 and E6600 are coming in mid August now and the budget E6300 in September. I dont know why they have chosen to do things this way but thats the way its going to roll.

The Gigabyte board is crap i would either go with intel or asus 975 or 965 models... And when they come out maybe the nvidia or the ati r600 chipset. DFI makes a good board aswell...

Posted by Derivative on Jul-16-2006 20:00:

Thing is nobody knows what the other boards are going to be like. I dont think Intel has released the 965 or 975 yet.

If Conroe can still pull off 4 ghz overclocks then its going to be sick.

HEy guys I have a Q Conroe will supurt DDR 1 or 2 ?

Posted by Derivative on Jul-16-2006 23:31:

Conroe is DDR2.

Posted by ronk on Jul-17-2006 00:14:

fuckin damn shit ass god

this chip looks insane.

the problem is the mobo's I think..but I want my new pc!

so what would you recommend?
Athlon 64 X2 4400 on a DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-DR with OCZ 1GB Dual Platinum Rev2 ram
or one of these new Conroes, with a different mobo and apparently a less fast ram?
because I've been waiting for the price drops of AMD cpu's...but now I think I'll buy a Conroe instead.

Take a look at This

Posted by David Adams on Jul-18-2006 03:03:

I want to hear from you guys on how this helps out your DAW. I have an Athlon 64 3500+ at the moment and it has been giving me problems on my latest track. I'm just doing too much at once. I would really like to hear the before and after stories from you that upgrade.

I'm sure it will be phenomenal for DAWs, but I just want some facts before I make the plunge. I used to upgrade for gaming, but ever since I started my hand at writing music, my gaming has all but ceased.

Conroe is seriously the best fucking thing to happen to microprocessors in years. Just look what its doing to AMD's price cuts. The X2 3800+ ios now down to $149 on July 24th, confirmed by AMD. X2 5000+ is going down to $242.

OH GOD YES.

Posted by Mane on Jul-19-2006 07:43:

i was actually waiting for that amd prices cut but now i dont know what to do, that new intel proces are a lot better from what i have seen so far and they actually cost almost the same as amd right now :/

Yep, and from what I've read it's easy to overclock the conroe a significant ammount without having to improve the cooling. After years of AMD I'm seriously thinking of buying an Intel next

Posted by Derivative on Jul-22-2006 17:45:

Here come AMD's price cuts - 2 days early:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acata...#acp_2d166_2dam

I am so going to pick up an X2 4200+

I cant believe I bought a 3200+ single core for that money about 2 months ago bollocks!

Posted by Sinnica Hax on Jul-24-2006 15:56:

I havent read the whole thread, but it is no secret that Core 2 Duo beats the AMD, however, now that AMD lowered their prices I just bought myself a X2 5000+ for the AM2 socket for a really good price, Eventhough C2D is better, I'm just too huge of a fan of AMD to just give them up, and some of the X2 processors now had a over 50% price cut!!!!

And I feel for you, Derivative. I actually bought a X2 4200+ first, but it was not working when I got it, turned out it was defect, so they told me they were getting a new for me as soon as they arrive, luckily, thats when AMD's pricecut happened, and I got a X2 5000+ instead, for 60 LESS then I had bought the X2 4200 for!! so I got a MUCH better CPU AND some money back Guess I had to have some luck SOME time

Dual Woodcrest FTW.. :-)

I had one to screw around with a couple of months back (yes I know they weren't pulically available then). That thing was a beast, whups the opterons into the ground.

Posted by DeZmA on Jul-24-2006 17:47:

Seems like the predictions were right. Intel is back in business .

Posted by Vizay on Jul-26-2006 03:47:

I wonder how AMD will counter this except for the prices. Could this be the reason why AMD is hasting their quadcore so it can be shown by the end of this year?

Posted by Sinnica Hax on Jul-26-2006 11:22:

They also announced AM3, which will be compatible with AM2 boards, which is why I picked AMD (okay not entirely, I am a AMD fanboy I admit, *kisses his X2 5000+*)
