Dancing Dude Review: Cajjmere Wray & STEPHAN GRONDIN at Sonic (OMG!! :))

OMG!!!!!! Simply put, the most OUTSTANDING NIGHT AT SONIC to date!!!!

STEPHAN GRONDID was spectacular!!!! Dirty progressive tribal beats all night long... an amazing selection of music that just kept you going when you thought your body couldn't do it any more! As always, the people & the vibe at Sonic were perfect and the dancefloor was jumping from start to end. I've always had a thing for Montreal DJ's and last night was the closest to a Stereo party that I've ever experienced in T.O.! Simply unreal!

Stephan is a technical genius and his mixes were elaborate & flawless... and just when you thought the music couldn't get any better, he would pull a new trick out of his bag and set the place on fire!!!! He tweaked every angle of the sound system and I have never heard Sonic sound so deadly! Stephan kicked the shit out of us and I swear I'm not a massacist, but I must admit the pain my body is feeling today is just OH SOOOO GOOOOD!!!! I worked off every ounce of frustration, stress & all the other day-to-day nonsense last night & feel completely renewed & revived... mind, body & soul!! This is the reason I love dancing so much & thanks to Grondin, that ideal was achieved!

Thank you Sonic for making Stephan a part of your team! (Something I thanked Floorwhore for a hundred & one times last night! ) This new addition has made an already incredible club, even better!

Special shout out to the Sonic Family (you know who you are) for yet another memorable night... and a BIG birthday hug for CHRIS!!! Love you buddy!

I knew this would be a great party. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.

best sonic night yet. unbelievable set. some people compared stephans style to chus and ceballos, which is similar - but he flat out played a better set than C & C's last appearance, by a long shot. technically so on point, with some of the tightest mixes and unique use of accapella's - he was downright owning the place.

wow.

cant wait for his next appearance, he is so fucking good.

What time did the place close?

Posted by She_Fitz on Jul-16-2006 20:32:

Although I was not in attendance I don't doubt that he rocked it..

I was fortunate enough to catch him @ Bal en Blanc..

I do know that he played Love Sensation at 7:24 - I love text song updates from Tristan.. puts a smile on my face when I wake up.

Glad you all had such a good night..

Once again a memorable night spent with friends/family. Astounding music. Thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy B-Day. Thank you Sonic staff and patrons for an incredible B-Day bash I will never forget.
Special thanks to Dan & the B-Day crew.

And last but not least thank you Jeff for the great tracks spun at Omar's.

Not sure. We left at 9:00 and Stephan was still spinning for about 50 people or so.

My friend Tracy and I had a blast last night! Two girls lost in a
sea of men on a dancefloor (gay or not), it was cool getting the
compliments. We danced under the big discoball for quite some time
because the music was so incredible! It was hard to leave the floor
even to go to the washroom, LOL. Here's a big kudos to both the dj's
who played last night. Wray & Grondin were a great combination on
the same bill. I could appreciate how the opening set wasn't overly
hardcore on the tribal tip to leave room for Stephan's set, and he
was purely amazing as always. I had a great time last time I heard
him at Stereo too. Definetley another bookmark night in Sonic's new
history.

They closed at 9... the crowd was screaming for one more track...but it was not to be...

A great night at Sonic...again!

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with Chris! I know he had a birthday he will remember for a long time!

Well that explains why there was a stream of party goers out on Spadina minutes after we left... nothing gets past me! LOL

ok, it was agood night, but hardly the best night there, unless you were gay...or liked the smell of onions.

So I had a whole plan in mind for last night.

- Take a nap (to get rid of my awful migraine)
- Wake up at 1 (set my alarm)
- I must have turned the alarm off instead of hitting snooze cause I woke up at.............. 7am

I am pissed. Carey told me that it was the best night that club had seen yet. And after reading the reviews I guess he was right....

The tunes must have been right up my ally.....

Chris babe, I hope you had an awesome time last night. I wish I could have been there to experience it with you. Unfortunately my body was (apparently) telling me otherwise. This is an official IOU hun. XOXO

All i can say about saturday night is WOW, Cajjmere surprised/impressed the hell out of me, after years of not enjoying his sets @ 5ive, Sat night he was dead on, and a great opener for Grondin, who simply rocked the place, once again a big thanks to the Sonic Family for a wikkid night out.

It was an amazing night and one of the best yet. Glad to hear you got plenty of rest, it must have been compensation for the lack of sleep I got. See you soon.

omg annoying! lol I love you both (well I only know Jeff, LMAO) but I can't take a review you make seriously anymore. Regardless if it was the best night EVER out at Sonic or not, it just totally reads like club promoter bullshit.

(sorry Jeff)

Whos reviews do you take seriously. Come on Jon really...

Whether it be a promoter or sonic "family" member or some joe off the street. These people know what they are talking about and know good music. What makes you think that they didn't just totally enjoy the good tunes and vibe that the crowd was giving off??? Not just the fact that it was the club they were in...

I thought they both worked for the club, in one way or another. So that's my reason.

edit: That's my problem. I bet the night was rockin', but I've lost total credibility in their posts. Long live Sonic.

Off the top of my head. Yours, Poland, Kevin, RJ, Rimjob, Hilary, but most of all Shiftbears.

Just to clarify Jon Jon, I DON'T work for the club... nor do I promote for the club... and quite honestly, if you are that skeptical about what other TA's have to write, why the heck are you reading TA's reviews in the first place? Who the F@ck made you judge & jury? From the sounds of it, YOU'RE probably the one working for a promoter who's in direct competition with Sonic! If not, why the hell are you going out of the way to discredit other opinions? Are you that miserable in your own life that you find it incredible to believe that someone else is having a good time more often than not!? Or are you that closed-minded that you can't imagine someone having a good time at a club that attracts a mixed crowd? Homophobic maybe? Whatever the heck your problem is, what gives you the right to think your opinion is above or beyond everyone elses?!

I have been to Sonic most every weekend since it opened & I honestly love the place... the same way I have loved Stereo in Montreal for years before that... and if you knew me even in the slightest, you would know that I have absolutely nothing to gain by my reviews of Sonic, except for maybe the sharing my good experiences in the hope of attracting other like-minded individuals to join our family... obviously, this EXCLUDES closed minded skeptics like yourself! My attendance at Sonic is purely volantary, done on my own accord, on my own time, and I pay cover like everybody else... and my reviews are based on my personal experience and nothing else!

When I started this thread (something I've only done twice), it was because it was something I truly felt & wanted to share with my fellow TA's... and it truly bugs the shit out of me that someone as small minded and cynical discredits me based on his uneducated opinion.

If you ask me, you're the one who's being ANNOYING!!

Posted by jon jon on Jul-18-2006 01:56:

HAHAH awesome. Relax. For some idiotic reason I thought you were YES affiliated somehow, I take it back. Apologies. So it's only Jeff I don't believe anymore. LOL

this is my fav part tho HAAHHA

shhh kids
jon is right, sometimes it just looks like the promoter is not saying the complete truth even if s/he does. I bet it was still a good night

I take back what I said earlier, this is FOR SURE the best part of that 20 min rebuttal.

Posted by 5hiftn6ears on Jul-18-2006 02:06:

It was a good night, maybe for some it was the time of their lives and therefore maybe your review shouls be "this was the best night I"ve had at Sonic."

If your basing your review on music, crowd, service, vibe..etc, then personnaly i would say it wasn't the best night. And I think that's what Jon is getting at, my taste and Jeff's taste on what makes a good night are fairly similar, and his relationship with the club does make his review a little tainted. Cajjmere was very circuity diva, vibe was good, crowd was a very "flamboyant" car wash crew (and not afraid to show it either...which does get a bit much to see)
