awesome mix john. i really enjoyed it. i don't listen to this type of full on uplifting trance very often but i do love it. well i have heard some great sets from others like Jussi Soros mix on here was the shit not too long ago and i still hammer that a bit. but i think your style is some that is taken for granted by a lot of people, well me anyway. full on energetic trance, uplifting and emotional. but i guess the consistency of your sets is what i appreciate the most. no prog. no house or tech mixed in. which most djs do to either cater to a larger audience or because they aren't fully inspired by trance. so it's good to see someone like with the good old fashioned pure trance attitude.
programming trackselection: 9.4/10
anyway this is far and away my favorite set of yours due to trackselection and programming. i can tell you put more effort this time around on flow and it shows. you start off very energetic as always (also this is something i love about your style) and you dip into more emotional, uplifting stuff. the tracks just seem to flow together very well. it was a real treat to hear every track on this mix. oh, and that last track..
. just made me want more.
too short. only real complaint i have though is that the tracks are a bit too consistent. could have used one or two tracks that contrasted with the uplifting sound. something darker or deeper maybe but hopefully something that kept the wonderful flow. anyway this is something that i personally prioritize when mixing. i think it's important to have contrasting elements in the mix because i feel it make the mix feel more complete overall, which results in a feeling of adventure or acomplishment. anyway i do realize this maybe contrary to your style so it's not something i mark off as an objective listener. this is very good work. ![]()
mixing: 8.2/10
the transitioning, beatmatching and levels are mostly good. one transition especially bothered me. the one at about 23min. into Oree. the bass cuts off from cherrish and there isn't enough hard kick from Oree to compensate. also i think there is a bit of a key clash there but not sure. also the next transition after that is ok but i think the melody transtion is not a good one. it seems to drop in energy but not really bad. that one into Oree is the main one i had issue with. besides that it's pretty gravy. lately i've been less picky about transitions in sets with good programming (
) so nothing really ruined the mix for me. i had a great time.
overall: 8.8/10
it's a very fun mix man, thanks for sharing. i will def be hammering this mix for a while. and as i said before it's your best imo, so i'm thrilled that your making good progress as a dj.
cheers
edit: you should sign up for Global Excursion 6. gonna be da bomb!

07. Robert Nickson & Thomas Datt-Tabla Mizma (Original Mix)
Im in love with that track atm
Downloading this now, looks ace
Getting this one john, Tracklist looks very nice =)
Awesome set!
I downloaded and first listened it the day it was posted. I haven't reviewed it so far, because after every listen I knew I was going to have a re-listen
Tracklist: 10
Loving each and every track here. The first time I heard Lift was in February, at Agnelli & Nelson performance. I remember it was an ID of the night for me. Manvel-Alisa has the Tune Of The Set title. Didn't know this track. So emotional... like Burned With Desire... I was close to tears
Water Ripples never got my attention, but here it suited so well, that I badly wanted to know this track's name
How could I ignore such a great tune!
Flow: 10
Quite rare idea to start with uplifting and going into more epic trance, but you did it superbly. Maybe it is not building up, but you keep the flow constantly and I didn't feel any drop down. And that wasn't easy, as you started with Sean Tyas
Mixing: 9.9
What to say. Accurate, tight mixing, perfect for this style. Transitions are always in time so you never drop the energy (this refers to flow part too). Absolutely no beatmatching issues, just brilliant. One thing I spotted is the loss of low frequencies when Oree comes. Though I'm not sure if I'd notice it without metatron mentioning it
I'm gonna tell you something. Your music represents all things that I like about PVD style. It is your best set IMHO. Note, that I jam to Transitional Memory on a regular basis! nuff said
Ill leave the huge reviews to the people who are good at it
Credit where its due, great mix, listened to the whole thing, mixing was almost perfect throughout, flow of songs was great (something I seem to have a problem with at times)
Will look forward to hearing more, look after yourself
hey nice set John
It's very energetic and I like that.
I think this will make people party =)
Great Set
I like your style
Thanks for the Music

John, I think this is your best mix to date. Wonderful arrangement with a nice direction. There were moments that allowed reflection because you suddenly dropped something completely unexpected, which I appreciate very much. Although some of the transitions were a bit hard to swallow due to shifts in harmony (or lack thereof), the incoming track erases them from memory. I'm glad you have separated youthfulness and emotion because a lot of the crap being released these couple of years in the trance scene tries to bring back emotion but it ends up being silly and undeserving of listener's time. You wanna go for stuff that's cerebral, plays with your mind and bring up emotions, rather than cheesey synth loops that brings out about 1 second of emotion.
My first time through it I was not very appreciative of your suddenly energetic start but by the time the mix finished and looped back, I realize this mix seems like a never ending dream and it provided a good sense of drive from start to end. Although I've said before not to jump start a mix like that, I think the track had enough variety to make it an appetizer track. I'm not sure what else I can say except very good job, this mix is a definition of good trance music.
-DJ Rain
PS: You need to work on your harmonic transitions a bit more, I notice you choose the track based on flow but you tend to forget that beatmatching isn't the only element to a transition.
