Question Do you work??????

This thread applies to people that work part-time to help pay for their own things. i.e. their car, school, or just spending money.

Or are you the type that gets things from their parents (i.e. car, clothes, computers, etc...)

Do you work for your own things? Do you get everything from your parents? Or a little bit of both?

Bottom line: How financially independent are you from your parents?

Posted by kolkiewolkie on Mar-05-2002 09:05:

well, a bit of both.

since I am in this traineeship at the moment, I make some money.. therefor I pay more things myself than I used to...

money for school: parents (they are considered rather wealthy and therefor I almost don't get money from the government)

clothes: me
goin' out: me
car: don't have 1. usually use my dad van, and then I pay for the fuel.
live (free) with my partents

interiour stuff etc. (radio,tv): pay this stuff myself..

so, nothing exciting... atm I am finally getting enough money to buy & drive my own car but I am not sure I can in the future and therefor need to bring up the patience to wait for even better times..

Well I'm a full time college student and yes my parents pay for my tuition and such, so I try to pay for everything else I can, such as personal expenses, books, food and I pay for any trips that I may take. But work study money can only cover so much...

yeah i work and am financially independent from parents. it feels good to be independent but sometimes i'd rather not have the responsibility. i am a researcher that runs clinical trials with pharmaceuticals in managing cholesterol for the prevention of heart disease. in a few years i hope to attain a professorship at a university. *keeps fingers crossed* i also work as a promoter for some clubs in LA and i dj which brings in some income (but usually more outflow than in).

I'm a senior in high school. I work part time 20 hours a week. I pay for everything from food (for lunch during school, dinner when i go out, etc.) gas for the car, AP tests, SATs, cell phone, haircuts, etc...

I drive my sister's car, so I don't pay for that. Everything else I try to pay for.

rake in the dough during summer, and laze around the rest of the year. of COURSE i go to school, but i try to be cheap so i dont have to work then, beyond the satisfaction of mental stress with no immediate payoff! hehe late/

I have a full-time job. I wouldn't say I "work" though. It's just something I do 5 days a week to give me a break from clubbing.

Sneaker Pimp

Well i like being financialy indapendent.. but my mother says that theres no point of having job. beacuse it's a waste of time and that wasted time should be spent on SCHOOL

so technicaly i dont have a part time job or anything.... that is TECHNACLY
i doo have a school job.. and get paid... about $40 a month.. and i use that for spending money.. any money i receive i use it for stuff that i need or whatever.. the the want it is...

mostly cloths.. my mom buys.. but thats usualy only JEans or shows.. any other clothing come for free from my aunt.. (it's always in style)

i was supoest to buy my computer.. but then i rememberd the disscount.. and soo my rents baout me the computer....

dont have a CAR yet.. but hopefuly i will after summer ends.. or close too it..
other wise.. the only money i spend on is.. for SCouts.. Bus fair.. and some tiems food.. with cloths that i NEED

so for now.. i'm ok.. tho i DO want a part time job.. but try telling my mom that..

I've had a job since I was 12 years old. Since I was around 14 I've been completely financially independent. The only thing i don't buy is the food thats in the fridge. I really don't mind working...

work full time testing industrial low voltage (up to 1000VAC) switchgear. i hate to sound like a parent but man, taking two years outta my life to get a proper education was one of the best things i ever did. i can buy the toys i want and not worry bout going to parties (well at least local ones) as well, i can plan road trips fairly well. and because i literally didn't have anything while i was going to school, it was alot easier to concentrate.

alright enough of the preaching, sorry

hehe..no work...but have an inflow of $$$
dependant from parents....hmmm....i'd go broke on my own at the moment with my expenditures.

but i'll be moving out in probably about 3 months, i'll be OK though

Work full-time and enjoy it, like what I do and love having money. Get to travel, I'm online all damn day (is that a good thing or a bad thing?) ..

School? Good ridance! ..

Well, looks like I'm bludging off the government for the time being.

Graduated from uni last year with an IT degree and now currently unemployed.

Sounds pretty fucked doesn't it? It so fucking hard to get job in my field these days. Not many companies are hiring ppl, more ppl getting retrenched. It's a fucking nightmare !!!
