DJ Mag writes a glowing review of Mixed In Key! 4.5 out of 5 stars
Dear TranceAddicts,
DJ Mag wrote a review of Mixed In Key! DJ Mag says, "Taking your mixing to the next level is childs play with this simple programme."

THE PERFECT MIX
This new software could prove to be invaluable to digital DJs.
THE latest version of Mixed In Key has
taken massive leaps and bounds from the
previous. It can now automatically scan
musical keys of MP3 and WAV fi les.
Previously, DJs needed to play a virtual
keyboard along with tracks to work out the
key. But now the software keeps a database
of your music and via its interface, DJs can
search the library for harmonically
compatible music and organise virtual
record cases.
As fashioned by the likes of Sasha and
Digweed, DJs wanting to take their mixing
to the next level should look no further
because this update is a dream to use.
Choose folders for analysing and the
software will automatically save harmonic
info to the file tag.
HOW IT WORKS
The software uses its own numbering
system instead of keys (such as D minor, B
fl at, etc) to find suitable songs, but both
can be listed. It lists keys from one to 12 with
A and B versions, so there are 24 in total.
Theres a colourful table in the guide that
demonstrates what numbers are
compatible. It looks a bit like a clock, which
is the logic it works from.
Imagine if a track is listed as No.12. Well,
DJs can play another track listed as 12A or
12B, and the same an hour either way one
and 11 (A or B).
The Mixed in Key software can sort tracks
out according to this number system, so DJs
can quickly list all the tracks within range.
IN PRACTICE
The good thing about the system is its pure
simplicity and its not like DJs have to stay
in the same key all night, but instead can
drift around the clock slowly, jumping
around within range.
With a decent collection of tunes, we were
surprised at how many options there were
and the most glorious thing is not worrying
about mixing out a track before the melody
comes in because songs wont clash. All
that remains is making sure they are
rhythmically compatible by ear.
Tracks can be dragged and dropped into
Ableton Live, Traktor DJ Studio and so on so
its easy to integrate into current systems.
DJs need to use the key lock feature in their
software though.
Digital DJing just gets better and better
every day! And whats more, theres a free
trial version that will only scan WAV files -
fine for some!
VERDICT
HYPE
Automatically analyse entire collections and list
music in order of harmonic compatibility.
GRIPE
Could do with BPM recognition and faster
scanning.
TECH VERDICT (OUT OF 5) 4.5

This is a very good idea to be honest, it will wrok brilliant for some people that will maybe want to organise their tracks into key, and it wont work for some people that will prefer to do it by ear. Every luck to the makers of it.
the program is not accurate at all, so it's a waste of money.
I don't understand how people can't promote their personal websites or business but this guy is allowed to promote this piece of software. Last time he promoted it he said it was free or something.
Weymouth, you are correct. The free version for Windows is still available and will never expire.
We have not developed a free version for Mac OS X because we focused all our attention on improving the full version for Mac OS X. Jones from Blank & Jones, Ali from Deep Dish and other professional DJs use the full Mac OS X version so we wanted to tailor the product to fit their needs.
Thank you,
Yakov

shit thats rude to blank and jones
I think there is no problem in using the software for reference.
but if you are promoting this software that is less than 60 % accuracy, for people to key there tracks.
Then it's a waste, beacuse DJ's who rely on this fotware will still be mixing out of key.
If people use this software to key all their records, without checking by themselves, then it's not going to work for people.
And you promote this, to make them think eveyrhting they need to be harmonic DJ's, it's to just buy this software that will key their tracks. In this way you are lying to them, beacuse the accuracy is low, and they will not be harmonic mixers, you should let them know about the accuracy if you are really interested in help promoting Harmonic Mixing in the DJ Scene.
Anyway I don't care that much, DJ's who rely totally on this software to key their tunes are not going to be good, it's just for the "wannabe" DJ's, unless they use it just as reference, that way it could help them.

We all got our DJ start here... When I started, I was struggling with beatmatching but I always knew that harmonic mixing was awesome. I aspired to mix harmonically from day one. Any software that helps you produce a better set is helpful in my book.
Since we all got started here, it is awesome to get support from our TranceAddict community

pkcRAISTLIN,
There are hunreds of DJs who key their results by piano after using Mixed In Key. They write that their results are incredibly accurate. We always try to improve the program but there is a limit to what any software can do. We try our hardest to make sure that it benefits as many DJs as possible.
We get emails every day:
"Just saying , this will change the way i mix forever.
Thanks, Gary"
"thanks again for your great product...hope it all goes well for you!
cheers, steve "
"For me personally, Mixed In Key is the biggest step forward for digital djing since Ableton Live -Neil"
Harmonic mixing is great to learn, regardless of how you do it. Before using Mixed In Key, I key tracks manually with my dad playing the piano. This was quality time spent together.

pkcRAISTLIN,
I respect your opinion. You are right that some DJs might be better-off keying tracks themselves. Some musicians/producers are especially good at finding keys.
Many people consider Mixed In Key a good learning tool. There's no wrong way to get started -- Either way, people will learn how this technique works, right?
