vaguely emo rock. Call it slow-emo? Slo-mo?

Had a listen none-the-less and it's pretty good.
Samples in their tunes remind me a bit of Sigur Ros.

Very nice music. This is largelly influenced by the 90s "ShoeGazer" movement(don't worry it's NOT emo), an ethereal and dreamy type of alternative rock.In a matter of fact this band sounds like a copy of "slowdive", a legendary "shoegazer/dream-pop" band. If you like this, make sure that you listen to these albums:

CLASSIC SHOEGAZER/DREAM-POP
Slowdive- "Catch the Breeze" (2cd anthology)(absolutely find this!Extremely beautifull ethereal soundscapes!ulrich Schnauss,M83,these guys and many others are fans!)
Slowdive- "Just For A Day"
My Bloody Valentine- "Loveless" (a classic shoegazer album)
Lush- "Spooky"
Ride- "Nowhere"
Cocteau Twins- "Treasure"
Bethany Curve- "You brought us here"
The Autumns- "Angel Pool"
Red House Painters- "Down Colorful Hill"

MODERN POST-ROCK AND ELECTRONICA THAT IS INFLUENCED BY SHOEGAZER

Ulrich Schnauss- "A Strangely Isolated Place"
M83- "Before the Dawn Heals Us" (one of my favorite albums)
Sigur Ros- "( )" (another personal favorite.A beautifull pale dream)
Sigur Ros- "Takk" (last album by sigur ros. It's perfect)
Engineers- "Engineers"
Lanterna- "Desert Ocean"
Labradford- "Mi Media Naranja"
Labradford- "A Stable Reference"
Explosions In The Sky- "The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place" (post-rock. BEST album EVER!Well, at least one of the best...with Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique", Vivaldi's "four Seasons", Holst's "planets" etc...!)
Godspeed You Black Emperor- "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" (another Masterpiece! An orchestral piece of art!)
Lycia- "The Burning Circle and Than Dust" (this is actually gothic ambient...it's dreamy, ethereal and dynamic at the same time. I was blown-away by this...)
The Album Leaf- "In a Safe Place" (icelandic band in the vein of sigur ros.)

There Are Many more...try these ones first...

LOL, yeah you are right, they are not directly related in any way, i just used them in order to show that the current album by explosions in the sky is absolutely excellent. It is also very "symphonic" but not in the classical orchestral sense. It just sounds like a typical 4-piece rock band that performs romantic classical music with conventional rock organs (guitars, bass, drums) and a few distortions!MUST be heard. It's simple, elegant and extremely emotional.

Cocteau Twins are very good indeed and especially "head over heels", "treasure" and "victorialand"(treasure is the most "avant-garde" IMO). All the bands and albums i mention are really good IMO. Someone who likes emotional melodies, dreamy lead-lines(sounds like good epic trance) and ethereal soundscapes would probably appreciate most of these albums.

It's definitely better than armin or PVD on coke though.

Posted by stevsto on Jul-24-2006 01:36:

no i mean it sounds as if the cranberries got smacked on captain ron and made some music. iow it sounds like cranberries at slower tempo. its background music you hear at urban outfitters or on public radio. and no im sorry id much rather hoover a few rails listening to pvd or armin. ive already smoked pot the entirity of my twenties, daydreaming, what a waste. ive closed that chapter in my life, ive moved on. its time to wake up and enjoy NOW. this music IS good though, theres a right time and place for it,

Posted by PETRAN on Jul-24-2006 01:46:

Are you saying that this music is for teenagers and now that you have grown up you would rather listen to armin?!?Hm...fair enough...anyway you don't have to smoke pot in order to listen to any genre of music you know!
