I hate Crobar...

I'm not going there for the rest of the summer. They changed the format to more of a "shore"-type club. Hip hop and reggaeton on the main floor 'til 2am. Every Friday night until September. It totally kills the vibe. I can only imagine next week going from Reggaeton to Mistress Barbara.

I will admit though, I did have fun last night. But I wouldn't do it again.

I guess this could be my review as well. They played breaks. Not very good breaks. But I was happy. The End.

Dude... it was so weird. Me and my friend walked into the main room and were like "What the fuck!?" At least, as of now, theres nothing going on for the rest of the summer thats intriguing to me.

At around 11 the warm up DJ wasn't too bad, but I don't know wtf happened at 12 or so, he went straight to Hip-Hop and Reggaeton, my friends just looked at me and asked me wtf kind of a club this was (their first time at Crobar). Anyway, Crystal Method was ok, I liked their tracklist a lot, but their mixing was pretty bad, especially when they tried to scratch. I did enjoy that acidy breaks shit they were playing. We left at 4, we were just too damn tired.
Btw Shamez, I lied to you when I told you Crystal Method was more fun than Zabs last weekend, you can't even compare the 2

Hip-Hop & Raeggeton on Friday nights until 2am? WTF!?!!? The whole point of having an opener is to rile up the crowd and get the party started. What a fucking waste of a summer... thank God I'm in Syracuse (well... not really).

I honestly cant remember the last time I stepped into a club... and it looks like Im not missing much.

I'm so jealous! I went a couple years ago and loved it! Yes, it will be 100x better than Crobar next weekend. Don't neglect to check out non-trance DJs too. Sven Vath still played evil techno then and tore his shirt off early in his set haha.

Re: Crobar Yeah, the summer format sucks, but it makes sense from a business perspective. Friday nights usually don't fill up until after 1am, and Ryan and I didn't expect any line when we arrived at 12:15 but it was the longest we've seen it in months. We couldn't believe it went all the way back to the bridge. In any case, we would've left if our friend didn't get us in w/o waiting. It definitely also helped to have mezz bracelets where we spent 3/4 of the night (Sorry Shamez.) The crowd was 'different.' They were pretty harmelss, but not very fun.

I don't really think it's a good idea from a business perspective, as no one gets what they want all night. The bartender told Shamez, barosoap and I that this would be the format for the rest of the summer and that they'd be playing hip-hop until 2. The only thing was that they didn't. At 1, I think the DJ switched and the music went from hip-hop to commercial house. I think, he played Mylo - In My Arms -> Mad 8 - Work This Pussy -> Roman Flugel - Geht's Noch, but I may have forgotten a track in there. It was like I was like I travelled back to Spring 2005 when all those tunes came out. Don't get me wrong, I still listen to a lot of older sets, and I like when DJ's sprinkle in older tracks to help a set flow better. I just don't think a live set should consist only of those tracks in July 2006.

The crowd was different. I still thought the FOB population was standard in size, even though we saw a group of 8 of them getting kicked off line when we were going in. They were all old (guys 50s, girls in late 30s) and not very well dressed at all. One guy had some of the highest waisted pants I've ever seen on a man. Like barosoap said, they were harmless, but they weren't exciting and fun, either. We left around 4 because some one was getting a little on the excessively drunk side.

Yeah... I didn't even mention that because I couldn't care less about those tunes. I thought that I'd be happy as soon as I heard any house music, but I wasn't. Oh well... I still won't be going until it's changed back to the old "21+ and house all night" format.

Well... I mean... for an 18+, the crowd really wasn't that bad. I'm also assuming that for those 3, the crowd will be smaller than it was for Crystal Method. Get there before 12, hang out in the Reed Room till 1. Then go into the main room where they should have switched over to the '05 house music.

For free b4 12, it aint bad. There isnt anything else going on that weekend that might be worth going out. Just dont expect a perfect crowd with a cool vibe. I havent seen one since April 04.

you could always try out one of the free summer time listings in nyc instead of going out on a friday night? what did i say? oh blasphemy! not go out...should i put on my flame suit now? =P

on a serious note, I haven't attempted cbar since my diggers experience and to see it move to this format one should only question...what venue do we go to for any form of edm? I say go to LOVE!

hip-hop at crobar.. they better get more bouncers and a metal detector at the door

Posted by LordQuinnTrance on Jul-25-2006 01:50:

I despised crobar as a club since the first time I went. They have good talent but not really worth putting up with that crappy joint. Def no Reggaetown for me... lol

Posted by seriot on Jul-25-2006 14:41:

only good thing about crobar is that cris ac thing, free admin and no waiting in line. but sometimes i think its not even worth it.
