Just wondering. I usually use Albino. Any others?

v-station, though it crashes whatever program I'm using it in on my Macbook (in Windows XP) so I usually end up using Pro 53, SimSynth, or Vanguard

Thanks guys. V-station actually is really nice. However, I'm having a hard time still making a specific pad. I made another thread about it so maybe I can get specific advice.

Thanks again!!

also checkout maxx clasters toxic III, linplug sophistry(near perfect for strings),and albino 3, all great plugins!

NI FM7 - frequency modulated pads = die Scheize! Try it, and you shall be rewarded. It's on sale now, NI-versary price for only 99$. Grab it while you can

Albino 3 is great as well, the digital waveforms can create some amazing textures.

I still love the virus for pad sounds it's just got a very warm but dark sound to it! Also I find the sub oscillator helps a lot with pads.

As for the korg triton I was playing with one in turnkey london not so long ago and I really didn't want to leave it behind when I left.

On a software front it would be wise not to forget atmosphere. You carn't really make your own but there are so many combinations you can make you won't get tired of it. Hell I liked it so much I brought it!!!

I think previous editions were allready good at pads but now with hypersaw and wavetables it's an absolute killer.

Posted by qiushiming on Jul-23-2006 22:59:

if you consider atmosphere a 'synth'...then its pretty darn good at pads =)

Posted by Anz_ on Jul-23-2006 23:55:

i agree atmosphere is a great synth, but i feel its a bit overated, though with some sick pads they all seem dark to me. i think i probably use albino 3 more than my atmosphere.atmosphere is a really good synth for extremely great sounds nontheless.

are you talking about like super saw trance pads or something, cuz z3ta+ and vanguard will get you that.

but for bg and atmospheric pads use hypersonic 2 or absynth, those are good synths for those kind of pads.

NI FM7
spectrasonics atmosphere
protoplasm (free)
NI Absynth

Roland JD-800

Best pad synths =

Kawai K5000s
Roland JD-800
Most of the Korg AI2 style synths (Wavestation, 01/W, Triton)
Roland MKS-80

Atmosphere

anyone tried/used Roland S-760 synth? I was told that it's pretty good for making pads...

Isn't that a sampler

Cronosis, I tried that jd-800 the first time some weeks ago at a friend's studio and it's really a great sounding synth.

Absynth 3 for all pads...simple as that...does everything just have to have some knowledge about how to work the amazing synth.

Posted by Diginerd on Jul-24-2006 16:25:

Pad synths of choice for me:-

Analog Pads = MKS-70 (big), MKS-50 (Small but cool)
Digital Pads = JD-990 (Rackmount JD-800 on Steroids), Korg Wavestation (Any version), Collection of random Fairlight samples.
VSTi = Atmosphere, Absynth

Though I have been known to use a mutltitude of diferent sytnhs & treaments for pads.. These are jsut starting points.

it is. I always thought it was a synth/sampler unit.

It's sample based so doesnt count as a synthesizer.

So's the JD-990, Wavestation, and a whole host of other synths. Atmosphere may not be the most detailled of Synths, but it's certainly a synth in my book. A ROMpler based one, but it's still a synth.

Most samplers can be used as synths too, just because your raw waveform is a sample doesn't stop you synthesizing..

The lines these days are very blurred.. :-0
