Talvin Singh @ SummerStage Aug 13

Its free!, its a Sunday

Sunday, August 13, 2006
From 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM

quote:
One of the prime architects of Indian-inspired British dance music, DJ Talvin Singh will bring his trademark hybrid of drum 'n bass and bhangra to the Rumsey Playing Field stage. A classically trained tabla player who abandoned a career in traditional Indian music in the mid-'90s, Singh founded the club-night Anokha, which became ground zero for London's South Asian dance explosion. Throughout his solo career and his collaborations with famous figures such as Bjork, Sioxsie & The Banshees and Sun Ra, Singh has remained a champion of new and exciting artists, and you can take it for granted he'll be spinning something amazing that you've never heard before.

lol far from it....his other alias is "kid loco" he is known to mix jazz and dnb with a hint of indian influenced beats. I guess fusion would be the best word to describe his style. There are many artists who promote the "asian underground" sound. Check out Nitin sawhney, tj rehmi, badmarsh and shri, Thievery Corporation

it would be along the lines of this vid but less "popish" but check out amazon.com for samples of his albums

He will also be doing a dj set at the after party

ok well so far got my weekend planned out till sat, but got nothing to do sunday. so this Talvin whoever (sorry but ive never heard of the dude) seems considerable. but my question is, is it worth going, even though its free?

i dont know, seems like a reasonable way to expand my knowledge in music. just hoping to be worth it. dont wanna waste my time heading out there n figure out its not by the time its too late. thx

talvin is worth it....its not trance/house its more dnb witha bit of indian falvour.

Just go onto amazon and serach his name, you will see what his style of production is. But i been told he plays a good dj set, not too indian influenced.

On saturday there is the dragon boat festival in queens at flushing meadows. Not related to edm, but its free
