Indeed. New mastering for some tracks wouldn't hurt tho.

What Ian and Nik said. Re-releases of some past goodies are fine but remakes/reworks/updates/re-edits/remixes - no thanks indeed. Why the hell do they need to remake every god damn hit from the past or even recent years just to make them fit in today's standards when it would be much nicer if they'd come up with some new own material instead?

Don't try to tell me, we all know why they really are doing so but it still sucks donkey's balls.

All'n'all, i've been wanting for a remastered release of Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92 for so long as the original is very poorly mastered but sadly i believe it's very unlikely it'll ever come.

i'd like a new mastering on the first prodigy album, utah saints & the likes. While fine back then, you have to wonder how good they'd be if they could use todays technology which effectively polishes turds in many cases

If i remember right, a remastered version of Prodigy's Experience was released in 2001, a 2xCD with remixes and b-sides on the 2nd disc.

probably so I'm not quick off the mark with things. In my world the first 4 minute mile has just been run, the russians have just landed on the moon, and america is ruled by jfk

Haha! Yes, HERE it is. Go find your copy.

Real good music is timeless. Fad pop music needs to be updated every 5 years.

thing i've wondered, would people be so against the idea of 200x remakes if they were released for free?

Rereleases are ok. No updated remixes though, at least we should have a lot less than what we get.

Also a rerelease should contain the original, and a totally recreated version of the original, done on modern equipment. Theres so many old tracks that are good but the production doesnt sound as good as todays stuff. Remake them, but dont change ANYTHING. Just make it better production quality.

Edit: I think they should make more of an effort to put older tracks on the download stores rather than rereleasing them with a pile of crummy remixes.

I would want to see a re-mastered version of BBE - Seven Days and One Week

That's exactly what is wrong with most of the "rereleases" nowadays. One which still annoys me to bits is that Matt Darey excluded the original 12min version of 'Li Kwan - Point Zero' from the 2004 mix package. It should have been there because it's only ever released on one vinyl release 12 years back and is nowadays pretty damn hard to get for reasonable price. It seems that any labels can't make a rerelease without adding a bunch of new and mostly useless remixes along with the original set of mixes when just putting out the release as it was back then would have been enough. Hmm, but the idea of recreated original mix included in the rereleases sounds good tho. I'm up for that as i have never really given that any thought yet.
