Father Richard (GREG KINNEAR), a hopelessly optimistic motivational speaker, is desperately attempting to sell his 9-step program for success -- without much success. Meanwhile, the Hoovers' "pro-honesty" mother Sheryl (TONI COLLETTE) is constantly harried by her family's eccentric secrets, especially those of her brother (STEVE CARELL), a gay suicidal Proust scholar fresh out of the hospital after being jilted by his gay lover. Then there are the younger Hoovers with their unlikely dreams - the four-eyed, slightly plump, seven year-old would-be beauty queen Olive (ABIGAIL BRESLIN) and Dwayne (PAUL DANO), an anger-fueled, Nietzsche-reading teen who has taken a staunch vow of silence until he gets into the Air Force Academy. Topping off the family is the grandfather (ALAN ARKIN), a foul-mouthed pleasure-seeker recently kicked out of his retirement home for snorting heroin. They might not be the picture of perfect mental health, but when a fluke gets Olive invited to compete in the fiercely competitive "Little Miss Sunshine" competition in California, the whole Hoover family rallies behind her. They pile into their rusted-out VW bus and head West on a three-day tragicomic journey filled with madcap surprises and leading up to Olive's big debut - which will change the entire misfit family in ways they could never imagine. LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE features the directorial debut of renowned music video directors (and husband-and-wife team) Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who direct from a script by Michael Arndt. The film is produced by Big Beach and Bona Fide Productions, with Marc Turtletaub, David T. Friendly, Peter Saraf, Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa serving as producers, and Jeb Brody and Michael Beugg as executive producers. The production team includes director of photography Tim Suhrstedt, production designer Kalina Ivanov, costume designer Nancy Steiner, editor Pamela Martin, composer Mychael Danna and the up-and-coming band DeVotchka.

The movie has officially been released as of today. I'm psyched to go and catch it sometime this week.

meh, i skipped yesterday and today's preview or i guess that would be today's release.

I saw the previews for this when I saw A Scanner Darkly. This looks like a good dark comedy. I'm going to try to check it out ASAP

To me it looks like another crap movie with no substance about destitute middle america

I really hope this comes out near me. The theatres in my town suck, theyll have little man playing forever but they wont get a scanner darkly.

Heading into the city today to watch it. Only 3 theatres happen to be showing the flick in all of New York. WTFD33RH4X

Got back from the movies an hour or so ago.

What can I say?

I laughed. I smiled a lot. Almost brought a tear to my eye a few times. Left the movie theater with a wide grin on my face. This movie starts out a bit slow (according to my buddy who came along with me - I didn't really notice all too much) but has you familiarized with all the members of Olive's family in no time. And that's where the magic is. The characters all have their ups and downs and you're with them alongside, pretty much the entire time.

Little Miss Sunshine?

Recommended for the average movie goer. Highly recommended for the person that's looking for a quality, thought-provoking and emotional flick.

When I hear "The Devil Wears Prada", you come to mind.

Well they finally started showing LMS in my area recently. I just got back from watching it and I got to say that I absolutely loved it. Its very funny in a dark humor sort of way and other times very thought-provoking. If this is showing in your area I highly recommend it.

PS Does anyone know where I might be able to find that "Jesus was Wrong" shirt that Dwayne wears in the movie?

The Grandpa was fuggin hilarious. *spoiler- I love the part when the VW honk just keeps honking and the cop pulls then over and he finds the porn mags

This movie had so many lines that were golden and the writing was ace.

I want to see this movie. Hopefully I will overcome my fear of the outdoors so that I may leave the house and see it, without being tranquilized of course.
