Ecstasy Overdose in Ajax

Hi im new to this forum,

i saw an article in the paper that i thought it would be appropriate to post here..

July 27, 2006

Next wave of users line up for drug
By ROB LAMBERTI

It's chemical name is 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

On the streets, it's known by names that are easier to pronounce, including Ecstasy, E, XTC, Adam and the love drug. But medically, the stimulant and hallucinogen is without doubt deadly.

"Yes, pure Ecstasy is dangerous, plus, plus," deputy Ontario coroner Dr. Jim Cairns said. "Sadly, it had been portrayed a number of years ago as something that wasn't deadly.

"Ecstasy is not a substance that should be taken," he said.

His warning follows the July 19 death of a 15-year-old Ajax teen.

"It's dangerous stuff," Cairns said.

Dropping the chemically produced pills is much like playing Russian roulette: Users are never sure of the dosages of the chemicals used, and which chemicals have been used to manufacture the pills, he said.

13 DEATHS

The drug was associated with the underground rave scene and it was advertised by dealers as being safe. But there were 13 deaths in Ontario from 1998 to 2000, and a public education campaign ensued. Usage apparently tapered off when raves became mainstream, Cairns said. But he said usage may be generational and the next drug is coming of age.

"Those few years ago when we sort of had a public campaign to express the dangers of (Ecstasy), this teen would have 8 or 9 years old at the time," Cairns said of last week's victim.

The pills are marketed to the young teen group, often designed with cartoon figures stamped into the pill, he said.

"The drug trade was being very smart in manufacturing this as safe and putting these little figures" on the pills, he said. "It was aiming at the 12- to-16 age group," he said. "Yellow with musical notes is indicating that this is a nice, innocent pill to take."

POOR GIRL, PARTY SAFE EVERYONE

WE NEED EDUCATION ON SAFE USE

I like how it doesnt say how much she had or what she died from exactly.

Or how they say that the press is used to target people aged 12 - 16....

Too many young people are doing this stuff these days and they dont bother to read up on how to stay safe.

Now they will probably launch a major campaign on the negative effects and the dangers of X, instead of actually providing kids with some valuable advice such as drink water, rest, and test ur pills.

I realy hope they dont start cracking down on afterhours clubs because of this

Re: Ecstasy Overdose in Ajax

^^^^^^^^ Yes...education is key...

But the take home message for E users is: Use it at your own risk!

I guess it's a tradeoff between feelin' good and experiencing the side effects (evenso the fatal ones...)

Reason that deters me from using it...

Unless, I'd make it myself...

BUT...I heard on the news recently of two men who were (one who died) involved in an explosion caused by the production of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (organic synthesis of this stuff is dangerous since the starting materials are volatile and explosive...)

That plan is down the drain for me...haha....

Hmmm...so not until I can afford to buy those darn IR spec machines (determines the chemicals in most organic substances...)...I'm not trying it anytime soon...haha...

Bwaahahahhahahaha. These people are so clueless. They remind me of blind kittens sometimes, lol.

And lastly, AJAX???? Why the fuck would you take Ecstasy in Ajax? To trip out to their hoedowns? I'm willing to bet my left asscheek, she wasn't taking just MDMA.

I think I know what you're talking about (the explosion and resulting fire in Mississauga, right?), and they were producing Methamphetamine, not MDMA. Completely different drug.

Erhm...I heard on the news about this yesterday...

The amount of E the girl used isn't disclosed (yet) since they'll probably have to do something like an aptopsy to determine the amount of E in her system...

They're also asking anyone who might have had these pills to turn them in (no questions ask)...so they can determine the other chemicals in these pills (that may have also played a role in her death...).

Correct..

My dear...

MDMA = methylenedioxymethamphetamine, a type of methamphetamine

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ecstasy Overdose in Ajax

And MDMA is the most common form of E produced I believe...hence I would suspect that was the type of meth made by those two men...

Posted by riskytrader on Jul-27-2006 12:55:

It's unfortunate but these days the media just isn't reporting the news like they should. In this case for example the actual information is very vague. These articles always seem to come out time and time again to warn about the overall risk of E however fail to educate and raise awareness of the ACTUAL risks (overheating, dehydration etc). I always do my due dilgence with anything I do so I know the pro's and con's.

Welcome to the forums! Hopefully we'll see you out at some events!

Speak for yourself, amature.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Jul-27-2006 13:09:

they never tell you that the poor person who died was drunk out of their minds, decided to pop a pill, danced themselves into the ground while drinking even more alcohol....and not once did they stop to drink water.....so was it the pill that killed them or the fact they were stupid and didn't educate themselves first.

I dunno if that smiley means you're kidding, but MDMA is not a type of a methamphetamine. It's like saying carbon dioxide (a harmless atmospheric gas) is a type of carbon monoxide (a highly toxic gas). Those extra atoms really do make the difference in chemical compounds. Meth is not MDMA and never will be.

Oh, and I love how they say E pills are geared towards kids because they're colorful. By the same train of logic we could say cocaine is geared towards kids cause cocaine looks a lot like sugar, which kids love.

Posted by _EuG_ on Jul-27-2006 13:12:

also the girl is 15, Marijuana shuold be more then enough for her to get messed up. Why the need to go all out

I'm going to say...more of the latter reason...

I think you're a little confused. MDMA and Meth are two different things, often combined to cheapen the cost of making pills because Meth is the less expensive of the two to produce. As for saying that in its chemical name they both contain the word "Methamphetamine" does not make it the same thing. Meth acts as adrenaline and stimulates dopamines, while MDMA flushes your serotonin creating that euphoric sensation. Being a derivative of doesnt make it the a type of, thats chemistry...a few slight changes in the chemical composition can change a substence completely.
