DMC World DJ Championships - Australian Finals
I know that a lot of you dont really get in to hip hop but these comps are pretty amazing and now cover a broader range of music. I have had a blast every year I have been and they have some great acts performing... check it out.

In just over two weeks the DMC DJ Championship kicks off for another year, with local heats happening in Canberra and Sydney on August 5th followed closely by the grand finale of the Melbourne local heat combined Australian final which goes down on August 12th at the Hi Fi Bar in Melbourne.
This annual event has been running for a whopping 21 years and has spawned some amazing superstar DJ talent including the likes of DJ Craze, Cash Money, Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike and on the local front DJ Dexta from the Avalanches fame all the while playing a massive part in establishing this fundamental element of hip hop culture.
The combined Melbourne heat and National final means that more than ever before, the DMCs will deliver an action packed final showdown, that includes our favourite locals alongside champion DJs from across the country all vying to win their way into the DJ world history books. As per usual each competing DJ gets 6 minutes on the decks to impress the judges and crowd alike with some dope skills, tricks and originality. The winner will be collecting some major prizes, before flying to London to represent Australia at the World finals in September.
There are 3 main heats:
05/08/2006, 8pm, Manning Bar, NSW - Click
05/08/2006, 9pm, Transit Bar, ACT - Click
12/08/2006, 8pm, Hi Fi Bar & Ballroom, VIC

I refuse to go to these ever since they asked me to longer compete because i was pwning the competition so badly and they said it "wasnt good for the future of the event" 
Im kidding by the way, the only scratching i ever do is after a visit to strangis' mums place.
hopefully Jarrod (J-Red) is in this years...I believe he one the worlds last year and has been going strong ever since...top bloke!

right i'm going to the Sydney championships. can't seem to find where I can get $20 tix instead of paying $25 at the door though.
Hip hop isn't something I listen to much so I didn't really have any expectation when I rocked up to last Saturday's NSW finals at Manning Bar. I dragged along a few friends, including one who had come up from Melbourne for the week. The plan was to check it out and if it was crap we'd go elsewhere.
At first it seemed like like we'd be making a quick exit as there wasn't much of a crowd, and people were sitting around drinking beer and talking amongst themselves and not really paying attention to what was happening on stage. Well that was my first impression anyway.
Good thing we did because the quality and confidence of the DJs just kept on getting better from heat to heat. There were some wicked basslines, crazy turntable tricks and an awesome display of technical ability and musical creativity. These guys had major skills.
The crowd soon warmed up and with the addition of the break dancing display from the Beat Boys, prize giveaways, and some cool beat box performances by Rivals & Heywire (star wars death march beatbox stylez ftw!). I was mighty impressed. As it turned out I ended up staying through the entire competition and left just after the last entrant had his six minutes of mixing time.

I am glad you enjoyed in Anf Now when you are in Melbourne we can chill out in the hood and drink Eight Ball!
It certainly is a very different atmosphere from dance parties. But the Australian hip hop scene is very different from what people see in the movies from USA. There's no 50 cent or P Diddy.
Staen 1 played at Earthcore last year and had Millson and I jumping around like crazy.
Saying all of this I am actually not 100% sure I can go on Saturday now

DMCs are where the best technical DJ skills come out to play. Bar none, the best show on turntables.
Q-Bert and Mixmaster Mike are fantastic, but what about the Canadian content of DJ Dopey and A-Trak?
Or the unbelievable [and soon to be banned because they are simply too good] team shows of C2C?
I think that DJ Cash Money was banned from competing after winning too many times.
