Micah-epidemic Now For Sale!

After a ton of support as promo, Micah's long awaited release of Epidemic is finally here!.

PROGRESSIVE SOUNDS REVIEW

Micah - Epidempic
Ruhnsong Recordings
[RUHN001]
Rating: 9/10
1. Part 1
2. Part 2
3. Umut Gokcen Remix
4. Joel Armstrong Remix

Micah is a Canadian producer who really doesn't need any introduction. His production style has varied over the years, from driving funky tunes, to deep emotional numbers, to soundtrack material. Not too long ago his rework of Bent's "As You Fall" captured a huge audience due to its simplistic but deeply touching atmosphere. And it seems he is going from strength to strength with the launch of his label "Ruhnsong Recordings", and a beautiful release to kick it off.

Part 1 captured me right from the outset due to the sheer beauty in the introduction. Lush pads are complimented by an emotive string section to set the mood. The track possesses an amazing sense of structural unity in its progression which is a true testament to Micah's solid production skills. This one is on constant rotation in my player.

Part 2 builds on the original theme created in Part 1, but moves with a more chugging feel due to the percussion being engineered in a different fashion. The synths are harder and stand out over the emotive pads. The blissful melody of part 1 is still there, however its execution is unique, and complements the first part very well.

Turkish producer Umut Gokcen chugs out an anthemic remix of "Epidemic". The remix is pitched at the peaking moments of an emotive but driving progressive set. The melodic samples from the original are tweaked up in excellent fashion, and Gokcen works up a great balance between original material and samples from the track. A very pleasing mix which has already been receiving top support.

Joel Armstrong provides the final remix on the release. His work for Proton and Baroque has gained him global respect, and his talent shows off well here. His work has been very unique in recent times, and his mix of "Epidemic" is no exception. He retains the feel of the original, but introduces some heavy synths and a driving percussion outfit. This created a very interesting effect which sets itself out from the other versions on the release, and also ends it on a high note.

I was more than impressed with this release from Micah's new label. As I have been saying a lot lately, there are many many new labels appearing in recent times, and the first release can prove critical in determining how well the label does. I am confident that with "Epidemic" kicking off Ruhnsong Recordings, that the future is looking very positive. I for one will certainly be keeping a keen eye on future releases, and I can strongly advise everyone reading to do the same!

I got the wave from beatport and have to say that this is one of my favorite Micah tracks to date. Part 2 is the track that does it for me the most.

Just had a listen to the Part 1 Mix... another flawless production by Micah! Love the hard knocking beat with the deep driving bassline. Ruhnsong Recordings is certainly making a massive impression with a quality debut release, and with already another amazing track to come.

Wow... I can guess this one... I have been eagerly waiting since January for the release of this track, since i heard it in Markus Schulz's GDJB set! This is honestly the production of the year for me by Ilya Malyuev... I have still never heard such a spiralling, melodic, and atmospheric breakdown as featured in Glimmer.

Thumbs up

Fantastic release! it happends not so often when i really like all versions of released track. But this time all tracks in release are amazing =)
most of them i like first part of Original versions and awesome Umut Gokcen remix

totally agree. When I first heard Alkanesh I was so excited to pick up Micah's other tunes and to my disapointment found out that his new stuff is much weaker and not at all of the same banging calibre as Alkanesh/arise etc.

Part 1 & Part 2 mixes are really great!

Sorry to Dissapoint you 2, but Techtrance was just a bad phase in my life, I write in MANY styles, but that is not one I plan to go back to

it's funny how you managed to pull it off better than the stuff you do now
this Schulz stuff is so boring it makes the birds cry.

This is a mighty fine tune....and release.

If Im not mistaken this epidemic tune was a project from 2004 so Im not sure how all you who dislike it are claiming his new work lacks the originality of his older work.

I'm looking forward to his remix of Achillea The Seeress Prophecy as much as the vsag remix of that tune.

Part 1 of epidemic and Joel Armstrong are my favorites of this release

The Original Breaks mix of Epidemic is from 2003, same time as Adore you and Alkanshel, so you're right....some people kids

The Seeress Prophesy remix will not be seeing light of day...the label who asked me to do it owes me alot of money and are not playing fair

thanks for the support!

Loved Epidemic pts 1 & 2, though pt 1 gets the nod from me since it has so much deep emotion and beautiful strings. Has that kinda subdued energy, not all out like pt 2 but just toned down a bit, which makes it so much better for me. Quality stuff.

Umut Gokcen's remix is fantastic!
And I really like part 1 as well. You never seem to disappoint Micah

That's a damn shame because it's quality.

No Offence directed towards Nick, I just feel that genre is stagnant and repetitive......I like my progressive because I can do whatever I want and people seem to like it

Some More Feedback

IDJ MAG SEPTEMBER TOP TUNE

Micah Epidemic (Ruhnsong Recordings) Canada Ruhn001

Micah kicks off his new label with a new production from his good self.
And what a way to start. Epidemic (Part One) is striking, cinematic
progressive from beginning to end with stirring strings at the start and
a mesmerising melody throughout, offset by brooding beats. Part Two kicks off just where Part One left off with Micah putting even more emphasis on the melody. This stand-out release is also supported by two more first rate mixes from Turkeys Umut Gokcen and Ruhnsongs A&R Joel Armstrong.
*****

Jonathan Lisle

" Micah is one of the most exciting artists around at the moment and has been consistently releasing quality music for a few years now. its no suprised that the first release on this label is first class. expect more top stuff from this man." 5/5

Armin Van Buuren

"...I really like epidemic!.."

Thanks to everyone for the support on our first release, we plan to bring you plenty more good stuff in Spetember

all the best,
Micah and Joel

no offense, but that is some of the biggest load of bollocks i have ever heard. techtrance is what is rejuvinating the trancescene with it's sharp nononsense approach to trance, none of this epic bollocks that was ruining the scene. and if you think "progressive" isn't repetive bollocks then i really want to know what stone you been lying under

Posted by Micah L on Aug-15-2006 00:23:

you have your opinion I have mine.....to be specific I was talking about the techtrance I used to make, I stopped paying attention to "Trance" in all it's forms a few years back...nothing I've heard in the form of "techtrance" sounds any different than what was going on a few years ago...and that's how I feel, you can feel what you want there bud

and as a matter of fact, there are actually a few of us who are trying to breath life back into the "progressive" you shun, and from the feedback we've been getting, it seems to be working...

thanks,
Micah

Nothing fruitful will come about from continuing the techtrance argument. Micah now produces awesome progressive house, just when it seems many people jumped ship from progressive to electro, and I for one, along with many other forum members are damn glad Micah has joined what for me is the best genre. There is a lot of freedom to take one's time and build up a track in any number of directions with progressive and while it's true attention deficit disorder may cause people to find progressive boring, its beautiful in the little changes as the track evolves.

thanks man, glad to find someone who notices the finer points of what we do
