Review: 2006.07.29. CEVIN FISHER w/ TJB & Jennstar's B-Day Bash @ SONIC NIGHTCLUB

Holy TA central!!!! We pwned the place!

Showed up at 4:30 am after checking out Manzone & Strong...

CAREY you are a gentleman and a scholar.
TARA, sweetie, you are the absolutely SWEETEST; such a pleasure to see you again and I can't wait till the THIRD time! Hope you had an amazing bday!!!

Met so many TAs last night...jennypie, watching you dance totally inspired me in the midst of the sex-crazed, kissing-each-other and feeling-each-other car wash crew

Tristan, pwning the dance floor as usual, Gheymond, Steve, Miss Emma (what a sweet, cute little bartender!), chikaladka (Karina) very nice to finally meet you!, Cribbstar, Dallas, Peter, fairy god father, and two or three other guys whose names I can't remember sorry about that!

Excellent night; Sonic is truly as kick-ass (maybe more) than the original Boa...sound system was totally penetrating the soul with perfect bass and crisp high-frequency.

There was a remix of Iio - "In the end" which TOTALLY KILLED ME...what a fucking BOMB!!!!

It was a perfect mellow way to end the night. Left at about 7 am.

i resent that comment, being a card carrying member of that crew.......... j/k :P was nice to meet ya last nite dude

holy tuneage tho Fisher rocked the place out... from the moment we got there, non stop ( almost) booty shaking.

Crib,, hehe, sorry bout the confusion earlier on.. like i told ya, i wasn't fully awake yet.

Dallas nice to see ya again, RJ, finally a picture where im not tweaked outta my gourd.

don't remember if i ran to tara, if i didn't i appologise, and happy bday ne ways.

wikkid good fun, even with the amount of messiness i encountered ( thankfully wasn't me this time)

ok I have to write a review for this
Oreo thanx for the ride Jeff - nice meeting you hun and thanx 4 the g-list
wow. now i can say - FUCK GUV!
IMO this is just a better place for dancing
theres room, theres people, theres a good sound system, a nice floor

Night started off by having a few drinks at Eat my Martini (i think)
then came down to the club...managed to meet a lot of friends who I would never think be there
danced my ass off till about 5:30...then just couldn't dance no more! lol
personally only downfall to this place is that there will never be a tune of trance in the place
other than that - great experience!

LOL when I walked in, I can't remember who I spoke to first; I think it was Tara who then guided me to Crib and Karina. TAs were scattered all over the place; there was no one, defined spot.

WOW....

Bye bye GUV

SOnic is now the new party place for me

Posted by Cribby on Jul-30-2006 21:16:

Just woke up not too long ago...Round 3 killed me heh. How do I manage to do these things sober completly worries me. Anyhoo...

Karina and I were to anxious to wait around until Sonic opened, so we decided to head out to Lily's for some predrinking. Nice intimate place, and when they mentioned and brought us to a downstairs area I was like WTF? It was very cool and loungy down there. pre-tunes were ok; I can definately see myself coming there on a more low-key night. Good crowd out...and I mean our TA crowd . Left a quarter to 1 and made our way down home.

After waiting in line for a while, we got in at about 1:30. Everytime I walk up those stairs that lead to the main room I get chills; good ones. Our feet decided to take over and already we were jamming and grooving. I was able to feel the AC for once, but that didn't last too long hah. Good sized crowd throughout the night; The Car Wash Crew were hornier than ever! At some points I was actually bothered by what I saw...this was a first. The vibe was decent but it didn't do much for me...Thus I had to create my own and spread it out. Nothing too interesting went on to point out, except that I almost wiped out because of a stupid bottle cap. Yay for slip and slide dancing skills . I left around 8:30...I just wasn't feeling it anymore and I was dead tired. If good tunes were played then I might have stuck around, but I'll discuss that next.

I have never disappointed musically in Sonic. It might be just me, but I'm starting to get sick of the Saturday parties. Same tunes every week, same crowd, nothing refreshing and everything ridiculously predictable. That's expected I guess, but I did manage to have a good time anyway at some points. Evil P's opener was good but lacked those 'great' tunes. Also, he kept staring at me...I was really disturbed. Cevin Fisher was surprising to say the least. I liked his intro, but other than that everything was just unstable. Tribal, electro, and diva house dropped really randomly. It was a bit of a mood killer, especially the diva house which had the most ridiculous lyrics I have ever heard. 'Accept me for who I am.' LOL...this isn't a coming out party! Fortunately the tech tribal that Fisher played was delicious. Non-stop, monkey ass shaking. At 7 Nevio came on...I don't like being so negative but I have to be honest here...Can this man ever play a successful set? First off, he needs new records. Same songs EVERY single time. But my biggest beef is his mixing. He cannot mix. period. Transitions were horrible at times, and I heard some trainwrecking at one point. Work on this PLEASE. I will not mention memorable tracks played during the night because I can't honestly remember any. I heard many tracks played 2 or 3 times which significantly bother me. Coburn - Give Me Love is an awesome tune...let's keep it that way...don't need to hear it THREE times!

Some GTs. Nice partying with the TAs who decided to come, and PFFFFFT to the ones that didn't. YOU know who you are!

Happy B-day to Tara once again

Ps. Daniel, sorry for my bojangled words. For someone who's sober I can be damn sketchy at times.

Monki! After I decide to come, you fall asleep. nice. lol. There weren't that many TAs around, but there was a good crowd out, especially before I left.

Thumbs up

Happy Birthday Tara & Jennstar! That was one hell of a birthday party!

I arrived at 3:00 to a good sized line-up still waiting to get into the club. Thanks to the guest-list my wait was short (10 minutes) and after a quick and courteous search I entered Sonic to find a healthy sized crowd already rockin' it out to Cevin's driving, dark sounds. Everybody was really enjoying Cevin's tunes and the reviews of his Kabin performance were spot on - Cevin skillfully creates a party atmosphere. His track selection and mixes were awesome. I will make it a point to see Cevin when he is in town again.

Unfortunately I had to depart around 5:00 due to commitments I had for Sunday - which is too bad because the place was going nuts and the party was in full swing.

Good to see everybody out last night! As always - friends are a big part of the party.

I'll post the photos after I get out of my Monday meetings (late afternoon).

Standing in line for the party, I was seriously contemplating whether I should wait and go in or just go home. I was SO not in the mood to party. It wasn't until like 5am, well into the night that I thought to myself that it's a good thing I stayed. This was my first time at Sonic since the Pre-opening party and I can't believe it took me this long to finally go. The club itself hasn't changed much since the pre-opening party, except that the soundsystem recieved some serious tweaks. While it wasn't quite the be-all, end-all soundsystem, it still sounded nice. Very nice. The sound was crisp and clear, and I easily heard even the most minute sounds.

Speaking of sounds though; Cevin (pronounced "seven", apparently) Fisher did a really good job. Can't say that I enjoyed EVERY tune he played, but overall I have nothing to complain about. Going for a DJ that plays "proper" house you have to expect a wide range of proper house; from some diva-influenced house tunes, to the more pounding, progressive, techy, deep stuff. No electro bullshit though. Thankfully.

In the end (that tune totally made my night, btw) it was a great night. Which isn't a surprise because I've never had a bad time in that room. Can't wait for Industry X.

ps. afterparty rocked too.

Great night!!

Saturday was so much fun! Great crowd! Finally met some TA's that I have only read about! (Tara, 5hiftn6ears, gamma...) The music was great! Cevin played a great set. Kinda short, but enjoyed it a lot! It's the people that make Sonic so amazing. The vibe gets better and better every week.

Thank you to everyone that was able to make it out for my birthday celebrations.

I have to tell you I was NOT looking forward to this night at all. It took me forever to get ready and then even longer to get my ass over to Lily for dinner and pre-drinks. But damn am I happy I decided not to cancel the whole thing last minute...

Dinner at Lily was awesome, Lars and Liz I can't thank you enough for putting this together for me. Tunes started downstairs around 10:45 and my boy David did an awesome job. Danced my ass off for a good hour and a half, then took a rest so I would be nice and ready for Cevin Fisher....

Got into Sonic just after 1. Evil P was tearing the place up already. Haven't heard him since his system days, and damn he didn't disappoint. Cevin came on around 3:30 or 4 (i think).

Believe it or not, this is about the only thing I can remember about the night, LOL. Spent alot of my night wondering around talking to people, "trying" to dance, and smoking on the patio. I have been told though that it looked like I was having a great time.

Again thank you to everyone that made it out. A birthday just isn't a birthday without your friends and family.

ps. Fahad, I can't wait until our third meeting. You are awesome

pps. Yvonne thank you so much for kind words. It took so much for me to hold back tears. It has been such a pleasure getting to know the two of you

It's amazing that there is no more smoking allowed in the club and the foggy look from smoke is still apparent! maybe it's seeping through the walls!

wicked turnout but i thought cevin was fucking boring
his hand dancing was the highlight of the set.
