Drug classification

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5230006.stm

Agree?

At least it puts E where it should be. Though i suppose without enough research on long term effects, you can never be completely sure.

Presumably cocaine is that harmful because of crack; shouldn't they be seperated?

what the fuck is ketamine doing in a class c schedule?

doesnt that fuck u up majorly for like 45 minutes?

legalise weed ftw

Posted by messytechie on Jul-31-2006 13:09:

Ketamine should be lower - it might screw with your head but it doesnt harm you - its used in india in surgery ffs!

LSD is really low - that doesnt harm you but fucks with your head. Whats the difference?

I think anphetamine should be higher.

I know people might not like this, but I think ecstacy should be higher - def higher than drugs like Cannabis.

Posted by Bass on Jul-31-2006 13:11:

kets unclassified haha damn! thats gotta change!

that actually looks like a pretty accurate order of things in my non-expert opinion. little surprised cannabis comes in more harmful than LSD.

good to see ecstacy and alcohol where they belong. funny to see alcohol is more harmful than ket! lmao!

that list should be a wake up call to a lot of clueless people.

ket is class c that table must be out of date

Posted by Synthesia on Jul-31-2006 13:19:

Very interesting.

I assume the harm levels are based on moderate use though, this varying from drug to drug, i.e. having a glass of alcohol each day versus having some E once every x weeks/months, but not daily.

ket can fuck u up for 45 mins but weed can fuck ur head up long term

Posted by Bass on Jul-31-2006 13:30:

ket should be B at least, far too easy to take too much and very dangerous when you do

as for weed you gotta smoke an awful lot for a long time to really mess your head up. should be lower than that

Same could be said about GBL/GHB

Ketamine is a controlled substance, as yet unclassified. Mere possession is not a crime

im sure ket was made a class c drug last year its listed as class c on this site
http://www.thesite.org/drinkanddrug.../drugsandthelaw

Posted by Az on Jul-31-2006 14:46:

nope
it's illegal to supply as it's a controlled substance, used for veterinary and medical purposes, but possession is not a crime

Posted by sleepydragon on Jul-31-2006 14:52:

ket was a class c drug from 1st january 2006
http://www.pjonline.com/Editorial/2...ety/ethics.html

that is true yes, i have found that when i was constantly smoking weed for a year i found a deteriating effect on my general health and mental health too (made me suicidal and paranoid)

but any drug will do that because its that chemical imbalance in ur brain

im sure if i did ketamine for a year constantly would render me pretty much a vegetable

e's harm is hard to classify because of how much it varies. the research doesn't differenciate between pills & mdma powder (which is basically pure ecstasy)... if they're on about mdma on it's own then the positioning is probably about right, it's just because pills can come with all kinds of differenent ingredients in them that they are considered risky

Posted by dj_mdma on Jul-31-2006 20:11:

Harm is a subjective term really.

Being miserable and suicidal isn't hurting anyone, including yourself. (until you kill yourself lol)

Cancer is quite harmful though! As is liver failure etc

Of course, if you cain everything, its gonna do you some damage.

Also, chronic and acute effects will vary.

Either way, its a better way at looking of things, as the current system is well out of date.

Posted by Kinuvan on Aug-02-2006 23:25:

it's hard to quantify these things but the proposals made by the select commitee are definitely a step in the right direction. imo Cocaine should be separate from Crack but it would still rank near the most harmful.

The way extacy is is used definitely makes means it belongs quite a way down the rankings, and for the same reason why cannibis should be higher up in the ranking. People are way too complacent about cannibis.

Posted by dj_cuba on Aug-11-2006 23:08:

Ketamine should not be class C imo. Apparently it causes, quite literally, holes to appear in the brain tissue, I am not 100% sure about this as I have only heard it from a friend, however he is someone who has a 140 IQ and knows shit loads about drugs, even more than me :P

I have also read on the internet taking a line of Ket is as damaging to your brain cells as a 3 day binge on hard liquer. Now a session on the horse, let's say 3 lines would be equal in neurotoxicity terms to almost a whole week wasted on hard spirits, hmm!

Not 100% sure on both those arguments so don't quote me on it. Despite all this Iam still daft enough to accept if it were offered to me

could that possibly be the most dubious statement ever?!?!

i think so!

Posted by Shafteh on Aug-11-2006 23:19:

Long term E use has certainly fucked my head up!

to be fair i was hammering it pretty hard... then depression kicked in.. short term memory loss, and generally just feeling shit.. come downs just keep getting worse

In saying that.. Moderated use... say maybe once or twice every couple of months or so.. seems to do very little (after effects wise..)

It's called 'Olney's Lesions' to be specific, and it happens on all dissacociative drugs, doubt n20 is anything to be concerned about tho as it's too short acting.

Check this out: http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dxm/dxm_health1.shtml

The article is about all dissociatives btw, not just DXM as the link suggests.
