Am I the only one who doesn't like techno?

I don't have much experience of techno, but from what I've heard of Mauro Picotto's new sound I don't like it much at all. To me it just sounds like a lot of clattering distant drums, low frequency drones and lots of percussuion samples all going off at once. Am I the only one who doesn't like it?

mauro picotto's new sound.. hehe i fcukin love the stuff, but i think it is a bit of an aquired taste coz if ur not into ur barmy madness it mite just sound like a load of random noises... but its not.. lol

but what mauro makes is just one tiny teeny part of techno as a whole... dont write it all off just coz u dont like mauro picotto stuff

think of it like this:

mauro picotto is one of those who produces the worst techno there is imo

try out mark broom, secret cinema, redhead, marco bailey and other producers, and i think you will enjoy it (better than the picotto style)

detroit techno = no tempo at all, ok with bass, not too much drums

european techno (tribal techno / schranz) = much more tempo, much more bass and much more drums

only techno style from america which is nice listening too imo, is chicago techno, which is VERY hard (as i like it)

try out some dj rush livesets and see what you think of detroit techno then
compare those two styles

Some teckno tunes is good and some are bad. But schranz is fucking ugly music if i can call it that at all.

DJ Icey is a florida BREAKBEAT dj..........he was never techno as far as i know (i could be wrong but i never heard him do anything besides breakbeat). Now to techno......see the way i see it......first generation was juan atkins, kevin saunderson and derrick may and too some extent.....jeff mills and then second generation was carl craig, kenny larkin and stacy pullen. That is how i always go by things, other things.....luke slater is a great deejay, same with ben sims. Funny that adam beyer is only 25...soon to be 26......and he has achieved so much and ppl always forget dave clarke in any list.....i think he always needs to added because he is a founder in a sense that had been playing techno since really 1992.

dont have words to describe his sets and productions

hmm come to realize it, sweden scores pretty high in the techno scene in europe

lots of good djs and producers

first of all...if u are saying that techno is very repetitive, check out ACID TECHNO - this subgenre is very spacious, and all tracks are diverse!

I don't like techno. But having said that, I've never been in a situation where I can really appreciate it. I just don't understand music with no over-riding melody. I think if I was wasted at a club I could dance to it all night but not in the car to chill to.

Well at least you didn't write techno off completely. I don't think one can say that one hates techno after listening to one techno dj like Picotto. I'll admit that I don't love techno, but I do like it cuz I like dancing to it. What I really like is techno-breaks. I'm not sure how to classify that. I heard it at a party once. I was in the breaks room but the break beat was mixed with techno beats. It was really cool.

Techno is one of those genres that I think is MUCH better live than at home... For instance I could never listen to a whole Carl Cox CD at home, but when I saw him live he was just off the hook and I was loving it. I usually get about a third of the way thru a pure hard techno CD and start thinking that the beat is just too relentless and that it needs a breakbeat or a breakdown (with no beat).

I REALLY love techno oriented music tho, especially Tech-Trance and Tech-House. Pure Techno can be a bit much tho... Lately I've really been digging Danny Howells style of Progressive Tech-House. I'd like to explore some Deeper Techno in the future...
