Sundance Music Festival was like 2 weeks ago. They had a MASSIVE lineup, so I have no idea what you are talking about.

montreals house bookings have been killing toronto's lately...

Posted by malek on Jul-31-2006 18:29:

promoters are now holding back their bookings till the beginning of each month... in the next few days we should know whats happening for this month.

Austin Leeds at Circus aug 11
Sultan & Martin Villeneuve (MV) @ Stereo Aug 11

Sander Kleinenberg @ Myst Aug 16.

There's a big shake up in montreal's afterhours/club scene. Aria is fading away, Circus is betting on locals, Stereo is doing great as of late, godskitchen is putting up a solid party every 2 months, bal en blanc is helping redlite and the new Club Opera which should be the one bringing the big bookings (www.clubopera.ca), ndulge is doing great with its thursdays... its transition times with ups and down.

hmmm why the downfall of Aria? any particulars on this?
it used to be such a highlight of clubbing in Mtl..

Yea I am here in MTL for 2 weeks on work, so I tried out Aria on Sat night, wasn't as bumpin as I thought it would be, but was still alright. Then again I don't go to clubs on regular club nights, so I don't have much to compare it to.

There have been crackdown's cause of the endless ammounts of pills being passed around.

I don't feel like writing a novel.

But let just say that the management always neglected the look of its venu, keeping it dirty and too ghetto for its own good. In 2001, 'undeground' looking clubs were popular, now its just outdated and repulsive.

there's so many places in town to have a good time, aria should be the last one on your list.

this sunday has Deko-ze, Robert De La Gauthier, Offer Nissim and Rauhofer @ Aria... that's a pretty solid booking IMO.

aria was EMPTY the last time we were there. kinda sad, really, as i loved danny's extended sets there.

I echo Malek's sentiments that to explain what happened to Aria is just too long to explain... I have a lot of fond memories of the place though, when it was good it was GOOD!!

sad to see it go to shit.. I kind of hope someone like Charles (Guv, TIL, etc..) would buy the place and give it some new life.. I would hate to see it close eventually and no one come in to make use of the space (other than the University of Montreal).

anyway.. I've been bitchin about the decline of techno in Montreal over the last few years, but I agree the city is in a period of transition.. hopefully we will see new promoters with fresh ideas... and others like Godskitchen continuing to invest in the events here!

its not THAT bad!

its an after hours.....

im not expecting an upscale looking club.

Posted by malek on Jul-31-2006 20:09:

Aria has attempted to aquire an alcohol licence on many occasions and turn it into a regular 10-3 club. I heard their last attempt succeeded but still haven't seen anything changing.

Aria will never sell that building to anyone else than the University across the street. The University has acquired the whole block minus a couple of minor buildings like Aria. The Universtiy's plan is to level the block and build new pavillions/student residencies. UQAM needs alot of space at the moment even after the builduing of the new 300M$ buildings a couple of blocks away.

My conclusion is that at some point in the future, Aria will be no more, at least not at that spot.

i only made this thread cause the event thread was kinda slim......

so i check out some club websites and still nadda. looks like a thin summer there.

aria was such a great place! i hope it picks up!

the event thread is slim because no one is updating it.

I just started updating the august calendar on edmm, keep an eye on it:

there was a shity attempt to redo a swirl this year... but it was nowhere near last years.

partly because the promoters got broke after booking hiphop artists and then asking 80$ entrance to ghetto kids (who obvisouly have not that kind of disposable income).

the techno/trance portion of swirl went great, the hiphop was a disaster which brought the whole 514/aria partnership down.

How come MTL doesn't have an events forum like TO? Sifting through that thread is such a pain in the ass.

because our mod chased away promoters so we don't have that many events in our forum, not enough to create a subforum.

oh I am sure of it man, thing was, it was reccomended to me to check out cause they played trance. It was pretty electro and house, but yea that place is nothing to fancy to look at, it was an old movie theater.

www.rave.ca has a pretty reliable calendar for Montreal afterhours...
