This is an evil topic, you have awaken the deamons that lurk around this forum, flaming noobies that ask this question!!!

Anyways, the search buttons will get you these results:
z3ta+
Rapture
Albino 3 (my favorite)
Vanguard
V-Station

I also recommend
Surge
FM7 (can do some very bright supersaws, it has good unison possibilities)
Synth 1 (It's free, can't hurt to try it..)

but i dont want to

Posted by plope_42 on Aug-05-2006 22:09:

how about for drums

Posted by ronk on Aug-05-2006 22:13:

for drums and percussions use samples with eq/compression. you'll probably never use vst's for making drums/percs.

the thread called "trance synth showcase" will give you some examples of popular synth capabilities. Just be sure to check the first post.

Posted by djsphere on Aug-06-2006 08:58:

You shouldn't make assumptions like that.

Synth1 is amazing.
Almost like a free Nord lead 2.
It doesn't sound identical, but it has similar features.

Posted by retiro on Aug-06-2006 15:28:

Vsti for making trance eh? Try the megatranceanthum 2000!

Posted by Adriz on Aug-06-2006 23:47:

Use a VST like Battery to play the samples back, and you can do loads of stuff like envelope adjustment, filters, lfo modulation etc. all of which are essential for making drum lines.
