F-ing awesome! Big thanks for putting this together. Some excellent choices. Some of the transitions didn't sit too well with me but overall the set is astounding. Suprisingly a lot of tracks that I'm not too familiar with which is great. Add to that a dispersement of tracks that I love and you have a winning formula! Cheers.

No, they span a period of six years [2000-2006].

Before you ask, the point of this mix was to answer a question I had about proper trance which used to be produced a lot in the early to mid 90's. That question was how would this particular music, which isn't made anymore nowadays, sound like in todays times and the answer was this set. It's supposed to be an evolved version of the genre proper trance and not in any way a direct emulation of the old 90's sound, but a modernized adaptation of it.

finally got around to listen to this a couple of times and like it. there was a track or two that were a little too proggy for me, but a couple of others more than make up for that. thanks cos i know you put a lot of work into this.

what are you working on next?

That's very considerate of you to say so thanks for the kind words.
Also, my next venture is progressive house.

just listened this. and this is what i have to say about it:

i really liked the first mix from yo yo to manzanilla even though i didn't really like the second tune. the mix to deliver me on the other hand sounded quite bad and some other mix before that as well didn't sound so hot. the mix to airtight sounded really good again. but overall i'd say that there were too many bad mixes in this one. and the track list wasn't really "proper trance" IMO, just some ordinary trance, not cheesy though, that's a plus. so i'd say that this mix had potential, but there were too many bad transitions and i think i expected a bit too much from the mix.

I agree, the transitions were off, but I thought I could get away with it since the music overshadowed the flaws. My mixing has improved a lot. If you listen the last 3 sets (prog house, then uplifting trance, and now tech-trance) I put out, there are close to zero mixing problems and your experience will be much better with those sets. Thanks for listening!

This mix means a lot to me because it helped answer a question I had about this type of trance. Oh and about the labeling I have explained this a few times before in this thread and the one in Music Discussion why I named this mix proper trance so I think it is justified.

It's also good to see you expected a lot from this set. Those type of comments prevent me from being lazy or putting out crappy sets. Besides my own drive to keeping the quality high it helps to hear from people like you. Again thanks for the review and I hope my future sets are up to snuff.

Cool set! Nice bass switch from track 1 to track 2, the basslines are so similar, they lined up perfectly. Transition from 2 to 3 is a little more noticeable, but it's interesting because the tracks are more on the minimal side as far as layering goes. Great move from track 5 to 6. Love the uplifting bleeps! Like the transition between tracks 9 and 10, too. It makes my brain hurt (in a good way). Overall, sometimes the beats are a little off, but the cueing, volume level and EQs are right on, so awesome set!

I'm guessing your set is defined by that old-sounding synth that rolls up and down through each track? That's what "classic" or "proper" trance is all about right? In the first half of the set it's all about that synth, but after track 7 it gets darker and more "underground goa-ish" I guess, but the synth is still there. Your track selection reminds me of Moogwai-Voila and Viktan-Dr. Nonono that I have in my own collection of vinyl. Very hypnotic mix overall, I guess the way trance was meant to be, but I still love any anthem track that has a unique sound to itself.

I can see a person definitely needs a lot more DJ skills to spin this kind of trance (props to you!). You can line up the tracks so much earlier because they don't follow the anthem formula, and you can mix them in faster without it sounding harsh. What did you use to mix this set? Sometimes I think I hear vinyl pops but that might just be the track...

Oh by the way, my personal favorite on Chronoscale: Aura Indigo.
