Mac Question...
I have a G5 tower and a G4 tower, both running the Tiger OS....how do I connect these two CPUs for networking....isn't it as easy as pluggin a USB cable between the two of them?
The G5 is music only, and the G4 is for internet and work. However if I need files from the G5 i have to burn cds and stuff and I know this is wasteful and uneccessary.
thanks.

How does your internet PC hook up to the internet? is it via a USB modem or a network cable to a router?
Cheap way: buy or make a Network cross over cable.
One possible way is using a cross over network cable to hook both your macs together via their network sockets. Then you can setup one mac with the following network card settings:
IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
The other mac would then have these settings:
IP address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
I dont have a mac, but I guess you'd need to look at the preferences or setup part of Tiger for the network card properties/options.
Slightly expensive way:
Two RJ45 network cables and a 4 port switch made by a company like Netgear/Linksys etc. Hook the network cables to the mac's and the switch and then setup the network cards in the same manor as my cheap solution.
Once you're hooked up, i think you'll need to setup smb shares or something on the mac to see the necessary folders - maybe someone else could help out on the mac side?
Hope that helps a bit.
G5s autosense cable type and so you don't actually need a crossover cable to talk to the G4, a regular ethernet cable will do it.
Great set of step by step instructions here:-

And in a desperate attempt to get back on topic, this is a grat way to share samples or set up a MIDI & audio over ethernet setup..
