Metal vocals(screaming)
my girlfriend listends to a lot of death metal kind of stuff.. children of bodem, iron maden and stuff, those are the only names i can remember / enjoy, but some of the other stuff has this sort of 'try hard' vocal thing where they're like DUEAHHHHHH RORAHHHH and they sound like dinosaurs and its really not appealing, and seems kind of fake and over done...
oh, and i like liquid tension disorder.
pointless thread over all, but dont worry...its over anyways.

i have the perfect example.
its my bands first and only song so far. i hope to god its our last of the genre...
i know, it sucks really badly. i blame it on our rythm guitarist

edit: mind you it has potential... and btw i play the bass. inaudible over their huge fucking crates. but ive been playing 9 yrs.
Meh I hate those cookie-monster like vocals. Death metal seems too melodramatic and wanky to me. Most people I've met that like it seem to be triehards.. like "hey I'm not a geek/socially inept, I'm just too fucking badass for anyone to be friends with me, yeah so badass I listen to wankers growling into microphones about cadavers and decomposing flesh and blood and other badass stuff"... I dunno, to me the mentality seems to be quite escapist and immature. Just look at some of the names of the death metal bands - I mean are they 12 years old? Rediiculase to be sure.
There are actually different type of growls, there's the shrieking growl (mostly used in Black metal), gutteral growl (mostly used in Death metal) and then there's something in between (much like Children of Bodom).
Growls are the type of vocals that certainly take time getting used to. The growls done by the vocalist in Opeth are some of the best sounding IMO sample here @3:29 Insomnium has very nice sounding vocals too sample, Dark Tranquillity get a honorable mention too sample here. It's all about dynamics for me, I love it when a vocalist rips through the song with growling vocals then switches to clean vocals, adds much more emotion to the song.
Now, IMO, these are bad example of vocals here, this is just sad, SOAD, excellent example of lyrics I don't like
And comments relating towards the lyrical nature of metal are just misguided. There are bands out there that put out very poetic lyrics relating to various subject matter.
As much as I hate metal, I have to hand it to some of the musicians...it's hard to play that fast and accurately, however a lot of the bands are fast but sloppy.
I like some dream theater stuff, even though they're more prog-metal than death-metal.
Anyone ever hear of skinless? I remember someone playing me a song by them, most vile, disgusting lyrics I've ever heard...the ones I could make out from the screaming at least.
