Finding a suitable Notebook to run Serato Scratch

Hey guys, i am looking for finding a decent windows based computer to run rane serato scratch and just rane. The computer will never see the internet or any other program. The only thing it will have is music and rane. My problem lies with finding a notebook under 900 dollars that will efficiently meet the requirements for running the program. Also does anybody know why the rane needs so much ram to operate.

The minimum operating system requirements are either a 800 MHz Mac G4 with OSX 10.3, or a 1 GHz PC running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, either with 512M of ram or more.

from the Rane website regarding serato scratch live. and 512 is not alot of ram.

You can most def get a computer for under $1000 dare I say under $700 that runs SSL perfectly. If you check out the scratchlive.net forums they have people post up their setups and some of them are using 'old' notebooks. Not too old but not something that you could buy new anymore. With slower computers the graphics on the screen might skip a little or slow down but the sound will stay perfect.

You could find a lower end core duo laptop for under $900 that blows away a minimum spec computer, but yes I've seen people post up that they run around minimum specs just fine.

Although iv never use SSL as a general rule I always stay well above min specs to be safe. Iv known alot of programs where min specs mean the prog will open. Not be useable!
Once the new intel chips go mobile (or they just have?) laptop prices will go down.

You'll have to turn down the fps on serato as well as increasing the buffer.

The better a laptop you can get the better serato will cope.

I would try to get quite a bit of ram, as that always helps. Just in case a process hungry app just happens to start up (which it shouldn't of course if your laptop is solely for serato)

But anyway, if you want to run serato on it's highest performance then i'd get something that isn't close to minimum spec.
