Idea Sony Mylo

Not sure if this is a repost, but I ran across a demo video of the Sony Mylo. Pretty much an enhanced version of a Sidekick. I would def. get this.

WIFI ONLY

What a bunch of dumbasses in product development!

Looks like a killer app but the wifi only crap makes this product good as non existent.

"Enhanced version of the Sidekick" <---HAHAHA

Is it even a phone? I'd take my SK3 over that Mylo thing anyday. My only gripe with the SK is that it doesn't have video playback...yet.

dont buy a pos wannabe PDA phone and man up and get the real shit. SKX FTL. its pretty much a blackberry...without push email. i personally hate the BB and the Sidekick because of their formfactors, interaction, usability, and UI. just get a palm or windows mobile 5 pda phone. they are much better, more features, can add programs and stuff as you wish and necessary, can play video, mp3, browse internet a lot faster, take advantage of newer technologies. the list goes on.

my buddy had a sidekick 1 and i thought it was pretty sick. then i got to using it and thought "damn i love real pdas better". i just got the MDA and i LOVE it. especially after i updated the software. much more functionality.

REAL PDA phones FTW.

MDA = a PDA phone with Windows Mobile 5. click.

Too bad MDA is only restricted to EDGE since EVDO destroys EDGE.

This is why you aim on MDA takes about 6minutes to log-on then another 10minutes to send an IM. =P

I'm a sprint user and the Wizard (ppc6700) is a similar in design except for that awefully protruding antenna. Admit the design and UI of the MDA is great..especially with its winMobile, but just the bandwidth EDGE produces is not sufficient for a fully seamless web browsing capabilities. It's ok for small text and regular image downloading, but once it goes bi-directional in data transfer you suffer big time.

More specifically, I have a Sling Box (www.slingbox.com) and am able to sling my home cable TV onto a PDA, I've tried and tested with both Verizon and Sprint (both EVDO) and found Sprint to be the fastest (on both PPC 6700 - Wizards). There has been suggestion that Verizon has capped it's CMDA/EVDO transfers unlike Sprint who promotes full use of their EVDO bandwidth =)

Sony Mylo I give a 2.5/5 as it seems like it's sole purpose is to provide people with an e-device for chatting and browsing. The amount of money dumped into this would be better used in a PDA (treo 650-700p, mda, pc6700 both verizon and sprint, or Samsung SCH-i730) and besides the design lacks modern accentures..reminds me of "my first sony".

And to Vlad - XBR3 with glass frame means it'll get dirty easier and more visible (ie: hand marks when adjusting any tilting mechanism for your wall mount). I have an 40" XBR1 first gen and am simply in love with it. I really admire Sony's picture...I'll wait for the Samsung fanboys to start chewing my ear...and you Sharp kids can lineup behind Samsung.. =P

while i do agree the EDGE network is slower than EVDO i disagree with it not being fast enough for browsing. while i do agree its not as fast as EVDO when browsing as long as i am in a relatively good signal area i can get pretty good speeds.

btw slingbox on verizon will run like shit compared to sprint because verizon thinks that UNLIMITED doesnt include anything outside of EMAIL and WEB BROWSING.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Aug-10-2006 14:41:

I didn't say it wasn't fast enough for browsing. EDGE is great for uni-directional transfers meaning browsing the web and sending an email is all data coming down into your MDA. Once the MDA goes bi-directional, any packet transfers (ack/nak, crc, etc) will suffer in bandwidth. This is why AIM and real time chat aren't the greatest with EDGE.

Verizon's sling issue is partly due to the way Verizon is setup and sling's client server connection. All you have to do is change the port on sling's server and client settings and you should be fine. Do agree that Verizon does cap it's EVDO network which is a shame since it's such a "large provider". This is another reason why I love sprint! =)
