no, no, im not comparing them two.

its just that i was sure that lawler will be lawler for a loong time, if not till the end of his career. u know, dark dirty, drummy lawler. all of a sudden..... well you know.

seeing glaude sping electro-ish house for like an hour after rivera made me think deeply. cause if glaude and lawler turned, who do we have left to r5epresent the funk?

are we safe?

Posted by Misanthrope on Aug-10-2006 18:32:

There will always be someone...
crap. I hate it when dj's change their style - it drives me up the wall - but they have to.

you speak as if electro-house is a fucking epidemic.

its another sub-genre that has further expanded EDM. sure, some dj's over do it - and you might not like the trend, but last i checked a dj plays the music THEY LIKE TO PLAY, and no matter how much bitching you do it's never going to change that. if more and more dj's are playing it these days, they must be liking what they hear - even if you dont.

electro-house is the new prog.

everyone and their mother bitch about it because it's the sound that is most predominant in the scene today.

we're never safe. you can't predict how an artist will evolve, nor can he/she. they have to express themselves with the best tool that accomplishes that feat. you just have to pray there is always music out there for you to love.

with respect to migs, i can't imagine, as soulful as deep house is, that any of those DJs would leave that genre, but who knows?

this trend (or at least a hint of transgression) of dark tribal artists drifting to electro/minimal - lawler, vibe (in his may dancefloor sets), clive henry aka peace division (a little in his recent promo set), saeed (playing rej in his bulgaria set) - is disheartening at best.

i at least enjoyed lawler's style of rockin' the electro (Partynight June 2005 ftw), but i hate this minimal game. but hey, i've still got hernan, d-formation, desyn masiello, oscar g, and even saeed hasn't scared me away with one track because it's a good one.

all that said, promo sets are promo sets, and i can't judge these guys based on one or even two years of work. they're broadening their horizons and expanding their artistic minds. i actually can't wait to see what they do next. it's better than getting stuck in one game and never knowing if you can diversify your artistic abilities.

well said

Posted by Misanthrope on Aug-10-2006 19:10:

sigh.. you are correct, but it really sucks when you get hyped up to hear that dj play that certain sound, only to go and hear something almost completely different from what you expected.

Posted by DanR on Aug-10-2006 19:42:

Electro has energy and groove, and I love it. But what it lacks is "emotion" and "finesse", in my opinion. So while I really enjoy listening to it, at the same time I always feel like I'm left desiring more. Which is why you are right DigitalMP, we have to wait to see what's next.

but it is an epidemic, at least in my opinion. i backed out on my partying ways after a new years (or i could say i cut back a lot) and every time when i go out every single dj spins the same thing. now keep in mind that im not bitching about it, hey, they know whats best for them. all that im saying is its such a shame and it sucks donkey balls that so many awesome dj's of all them awesome genres are switching to electro. is that a bad thing???? well i dont know, it kinda sucks that wherever you go nowadays your chances of hearing good ol' dark drums, or funky ass shit or brutally choppy prog is slim to none.

everything is becoming the same, or at least 97% same. can that be good?

all that being said, can somebody tell me where can i go for a night of dark drums. i need my tribal fix for some time now and it just keep getting worse.

amen brother!

Posted by b4k-oz on Aug-11-2006 10:24:

I think a lot of dj's are gonna keep trying the electro thing...until one of them has mastered it...and makes that sound his signature

Only then, will we see our favourite sounds reverting back to that familiar deep dark funkiness that's gonna grasp our souls ma brotha

My experienced ear predicts that we wait patiently....just hang in there for another 5-1/2 more months
