World War III : possibility or propoganda?

With present and escalating conflict between the United States, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, China, Israel, and Lebanon, as well as the War on Terror still underway, many US conservatives have suggested that World War III is a very real possibility on the horizon. Some liberals have put forth that the use of the term 'World War III' is simply a means of distracting the public from the fact that the US has failed the War on Terror.

What do you all think? Is a world war looming or is it just hype and hysteria?

Yes its a possibility; US will force a World War on this planet if world dosent agree with them.

The War on Terror is not a war. War is "A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties" Terror is neither a nation, state or party. I object to characterizing it the same way as the War in Iraq, just as I object to the phrase "War on Drugs."

As for your main question in the title, the answer is both.

If this is WWIII than it sucks. I want to see the world go in flames that are not caused by people's own stupidity.

I totally agree. I was just trying to pose the original question as unbiased as I could. My personal opinions pretty much coincide with what you stated.

Because of the nature of the media, it's hard to know just how worried or concerned I/we should be about the state of things. It's difficult sometimes to read between the sensationalist lines, so to speak.

I dont think that what we are facing right now is a world war. I dont know about you guys, but from the two previous world wars, the countries that have been fighting have been strong with big armies and with good economy that can be able to fight a world war. But all these countries like Lebanon, Iran and whatever arab nation dont have the capicity to fight the west if they were to fight it. Also, I dont know why people put China in the mix? Maybe they do not agree with the U.S, but they dont want to get involved. Also, I dont know about North Korea, but I dont see them getting involved with the Middle East much.

The war on terror is like the fight agains communism. But now, we are dealing with uncivilized people, and this is our next challenge. Bottom line, this is far from a World War.

I'm just waiting for the rapture.

I would doubt a WWIII to ever come and if it were to come it would be an economic war. Watch Syriana and that should give you an idea of how things will work out in WWIII.

Wow, way to redeem yourself, first decent post Ive seen from you in a while. World War III is so incredibly unlikely I will not even waste any more time writing about it. An economic war, that could be extremely destructive, however, is not out of the realm of possibilites. As oil supplies begin to dwindle, years down the line, you will see scenerios play out for control of these resources. Now, no other U.S. president will be as foolish as Bush to telegraph his struggle for these resources, rather it will be done under the scenes through cia backed revolutions (like in the 60's and 70's) and puppet regimes. However, the turmoil and instability that will be brought about through these revolutions will only be amplified as China will more than likely attempt to do the same thing. The economic consequences of these actions could be drastic. It will be like the cold war all over again, only now throw in an even more pissed off middle-east (if that's possible) in the middle and you have a real shit storm.
