I was thinking of going to that but I couldn't figure out what this guy spins/plays. Anyone wanna enlighten me on who this Mark Farina guy is?

he plays house, deep house and funky house.. was ranked 131 on dj list recently, whatever that means ;-)

REVIEW

Arriving to Commodore at around 10, I wasn't sure what to expect. Entering the Commodore, I have to say they have done so much to the place since I last was there almost a decade ago. The sound system was tremendous, and the place has been renovated, top notch all the way.

Luke McKeehan was spinning until about 12, before Farina came on. Good house beats, a great opening for Farina as McKeehan created a beat I was hoping Farina could at least match. And boy did he ever...

Farina came on to a great ovation, as by now, the huge lineup outside on Granville Street were quickly filling up the 'Dore. I estimated that there were in excess of 900 ppl in there, and I'm surprised this didn't get much hype on this website.

He began his set with some kickin house beats, some tracks were funky and others were of the jazz sort you'd expect from the man whose "San Francisco Sessions" that I've listen to belonged more to a martini bar than an all out party. But this set had more bumpin' jazz beats that'd keep you dancing all night.

What really got me going was his dark, proggy house during the latter part of his set, the stuff you'd hear at massive parties in Montreal (excess of 7000 peeps) or at afterhours, and it was this part of his set that got my respect. Farina, folks, was off the hook that night.

Venue: 9/10 (was too dark but good sound, excellent bathrooms, etc)
Sound: 9/10
female talent: 7/10 (mostly couples and mostly guys, smirk)
Vibe: 8/10
