is pvd going downhill?

even though i still love him as a dj he is nowhere near as good as in 99 or 2000..hes been playing a fair few tracks which have cheesy fluffy melodies

i know im going to get slaguhtered here by all the pvd addicts..but its not meant to be an argument..just an observation

I think Rosenmontag really showed what PvD is capable of- making you go insane with a broad range of tunage, from junk Project Braintool to Funk Einsatz to Desire (4 strings) and lets not forget his wicked new piece of tunage Suzann.
He always evolves yet keeps true to his melodic style.
He will always set the bar for every trance dj out there.

Funny you say that, since it was in 2000 that he was wearing out sandstorm.

Ye of little faith.....pvd is still the greatest and rosenmontags 2002 showed why pvd is still the best deejay in the world (tho this will be argued by many.....coz everyone has there own opinion)

PVD is GOD!!!!! =) lol hey.. but i know how you feel b/c i felt like that once last year about pvd when he came out with "tell me why" ...but then i smacked myself for thinking that =) he is still the man.... and his set at rosenmontags rave 2002 is evidence that he will never lose it. PVD @ Sound Factory NYC is only couple more weeks away!!!! =) if u really think he is lose'n it then i think you should go to this event to reassure yourself that he is still da man =)

im gonna stand behind the Rosenmotag's rave argument... that was a solid set for sure and goes to show hes not losin his touch.. not heard a lot from him production-wise lately though, at least not memorable shit....

Rosenmontags was awesome.

I'd say his repertoire is getting more eclectic.

If anything, he's getting better.

im not really sure about the prowess of the rosenmontag set 2002...one reason was that he mixed ferry corsten -"punk" really bad. He just kinda threw the track in there at full volume and forgot to keep the levels down and mix it in slowly...but thats just me cause i love my "punk"...johan gielen at trance energy 2002 mixed this song perfectly from soho - "flyin' madness (pad remix)" . The way he introduces the bass line is beautiful....thats just me though

And when I listen to sets of around 2000 I think his trackselection is just a little too melodic! No surprises there!

That's why I love PvD Whenever you witness one of his sets you become part of this yourney, and it feels as if you're walking over hills, going up-and-down, and through the woods, trying to make your way throught all the broken brenches and fallen leaves etc...and at some point you come to that open area where you see birds and flowers and stuff hehehe (wow, i can join the looney tunes )

What I'm trying to say is that the tracks he plays are sometimes so different that alltogether they tell a tale which makes you wanna fly

As a lot of people have already said the Rosenmontag set was awesome, with a large variety of 'electronic dance music' but never getting boring.

Plus I think his Autumn production is pure class

I must agree he is losing his touch a bit! He is stil one of the best DJs in the world no doubts about it! And the best Only Trance DJ. But lets just hold our thoughts until he releases his new Artist CD! This may change a few of your minds. He may be losing his touch but he is still better than Tiesto!

i dont think he's ever lost it as a dj, he's always been class and still is... he's just changed like everyone else has. things have to change else they get boring

he lost it as a producer at the end of 99 IMO anyway...

I guess he i taking a break from the DJing and concentraing on his music production , look at Carl Cox for instance. DJing at a high level is very very tiring travelling round the world every week. plus you have to be on form, look at carl cox round the world in 24 hours wow

You simply have to evolve to stay around for as long as he`s been. The oldest song I have from PvD is from 94 or even before. To stay around for that long you have to try out new things that not everyone appreciates in the first round but that`s what a pioneer is.

PvD is one of the pioneers in trance who sets Benchmarks for the future not only for today.

i would have said exactly the same thing. he's sets of late have been bland and uninspiring - right up to Rosenmortag (spelling ??) but that set blew me away.

PvD is my fave dj. I have seen him live around 11 times, mostly thru his 2 yrs as a resident @ TWILO as well as other parts of the U.S. and in Europe and I must say his style has changed quite a bit in that time. His sets from 98, 99 were much more "trancey" and melodic, very synth oriented. If you look at a lot of his sets over the past 2 yrs or so esp the past yr, in contrast, it is obvious that his sets encompass the entire gamut of electronic music. I think he exemplifies what he constantly reiterates--that he is not purely a trance dj, but an electronic music dj. He drops such a variety of tracks, everything from melodic and hard trance to breakbeat,techno, tech-house, tech-trance and prog house. Lately his sets can be swift, fast-moving while at other times they can be deeper, harder yet with all of the PvD energy. I still believe, after seeing a number of longer sets by PvD (6-7+ hours mostly at TWILO) and other shorter sets, that to see his mastery you must see a 4+ hr set where he can experiment and control the crowd on a journey. He has a style all his own and I love it. My 2 cents.

abuot Rosenmontags rave, i'll admit that sometimes the mixing is a little flawed but the way that sets flows, its a 2 hour set and when i listen to it i feel like its been only for half an hour, thats when you know your listening to a good set.
