Tokyo, domo arigato Mr...

A good friend of mine is going to Tokyo in September and Im tagging along. Has anyone been there? I will be staying for seven days, I know this is not enough time but I plan to stay in Tokyo metro area mostly. Any suggestions tips or advice on how I can make the most of these 7 days? My main intrests are sight seeing and night life oh and of course there nice cars..lol

Take a river boat tour through the city, its the best way to check things out. Also, hop on a train, its cheap and also a good way to see alot of stuff in a short amount of time.

And of course, you have to eat sushi. Try the Fugu (illegal here in Canada), its to DIE for (pun intended ) But seriously, try it!!

Can you bring me home a Domo doll? I'll gladly compensate you. Pretty please!!!

Also, japaneese LOVE porno. You will know what im talking about once you start going into the shops and stores, its everywhere. The women there dress wicked.

You will have the time of your life, but bring lots of money, its not cheap in Tokyo.

As for clubs, I have no clue. The scene there is weird. THey have their own little world over there. Hard to explain, they are unlike any other culture. Definalty going to make you go WTF alot when your there.

Have fun, Im jealous.

you mean Domo-Kun..that drift thing? haha Yeah I heard the JR train is the most cheapest and I plan to buy a weekly pass. Kyoto is the farthest that I will going from Tokyo (6hrs). Basicly my 7 days will be planned out from the time I get to my hotel this way I wont be wondering what to do all the time. I ordered a very detailed book on tokyo city so that should help me out. You said bring lots of money, how much think.. 2-3k?

Posted by RobSt*r on Aug-14-2006 19:20:

Ya, a domo-kun doll, I collect them. I have a little obsession with Japaneese culture. I also collect their porn

But if you could bring be back a little Domo doll, I would forever be gratefull.

2-3 k should be plenty for 7 days, its the everyday shopping, parking, eating, etc.... that is expencive, so as long as you dont endulge on a lot of useless spending, you will be more than fine. Going out is pricy.

I have never been, but one of my best friends lived there for 4 years teaching english, and we kept in close contact. He made a website of his stay there. I cant find the link right now, but will post it later for you. Lots of good stuff and pics for you or anyone to read.

If you need any other maps of Tokyo, or things to do when your there, I have some books and maps that might intrest you. I can bring them to TO next time I am there, which is going to be this saturday at the Gallery for the Sexy Camo party.

Nope, not that one. I'll msg him when he gets home tonight and get the link. I should remember it, but its been a while since I checked it out, as he has been back in Canada for almost a year now. I dont have alot of my old favourites here on my PC at work.

Read the one I linked. The first few are fucking priceless. Hours upon hours of entertainment.

did your friend ever get kanchoed?

Posted by RobSt*r on Aug-14-2006 20:24:

ROFL ^^^^^

Ya man, he mentioned that. If I remember correctly, getting fingers in yer bum by Japaneese school children is a weird prank.

Im reading that site, looks like lots of good stuff.

Blow fish = Fugu. Its the most delicious thing on the planet. And also deadly if prepared wrong. MMMM, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I had it in NYC once. You have to call ahead, and reserve this meal, so an experienced itame can make it. Only a hand full of sushi places in North America can serve it.

Still, I am asked "bigu dikku?" a lot. Every 2-3 days in fact, which is amazing considering I was asked this about 2-3 times in my entire life in America, locker room jokes aside. How do you answer that anyway? To a 12 to 15-year-old? I wave them off and say, "No, no, no." Then they say, "Oh, sumaru dikku?" (trans: small dick) and of course that's wrong so I have to correct them. It's just a no-win situation.

On the days I'm not avoiding that question, I'm avoiding them actually trying to grab it. I kid you not, I have to play Dodgedick with Japanese Jr. High kids on a weekly basis. Age, gender, doesn't matter, they all want a stab at it. The boys are more persistent though. I had one boy grab for it, and when I said, "No!" he put his hands together and said, in English, "Please!" Oh hell no. Another 12-year-old boy kept grabbing at it, and when I told him, "No!" he politely asked, "Why not?" I began to wonder if there wasn't some cultural more I didn't understand. So I said clearly, "Age 10 years and become female since birth, then we'll talk." His solution was to ask the girl sitting next to him to trade seats, grab my dick, and tell him about it.

It is trendy in Japan for young people to dye their hair light brown/blonde and for girls to wear lots of makeup. Okay, fine, whatever floats your boat, but you'd figure it wouldn't extend to the 15 year olds. Not these two. Golden hair, more makeup than any respectable clown would wear, and skirts hiked up so far I don't know why they bother putting them on at all. I look at them and just see a waste of human parts. Yes, it's that bad.

I really don't like one of the teachers I sit next to in the teachers' room. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why, but then it finally hit me - he is completely enamored with the sound of his own voice.

He is always talking. Always. If the conversation doesn't involve him, he'll butt in. If he can't do that, then he'll talk to himself. If he has nothing better to say, then he'll sing. Or just make sounds. Really, there is no point during the day at which sound is not coming from his mouth.

Another time we were playing a Thanksgiving quiz game (we play a lot of quiz games) and I asked, "What did the Pilgrims eat for the first Thanksgiving?" One boy enthusiastically raised his hand and said "Oh, I know, I know! Indians."

The pilgrims may have screwed the Indians out of their land but I'd like to think at least we didn't eat them.

One day after class, a ninensei girl walked up to me, and out of nowhere proudly exclaimed, "Spread your legs!" Perhaps mistaking the look of shocked bewilderment on my face for misunderstanding, she stuck her chest out and repeated it even louder, "Spread your legs!"

She then produced a book of (apparently) colloquial English expressions. The phrase came from the police section. You know, "Get out of the car! Against the wall! Spread your legs!" She just randomly selected "Spread your legs!" and decided to try it on me.

Good choice my friend. Tokyo is one of my fav cities.

- Be aware, tokyo is FUCKING expensive.
- Use the metro for travels around the Tokyo area
- Try partying in the Rappongi area at least once- its fun in a wierd way
- go to Womb, Ive never been there..but heard good things about it
- Take the Shinsaken (bullet train) to Kyoto. Its ~ hours or so from tokyo station or 1hr 45min from Shinagawa
- Do go to the Shinjuku area. You will love the neon lights out there
- Check out the imperial palace
- Got to Asakusa (old Tokyo) It feels like time has stood still there.
- Tokyo is a great experience. You will love it.
- If you shop smart, you can fly there direct from Toronto for under 1k.

Good luck and have fun.

One day I was working with one of my favorite teachers in the ghetto school. Her English is great, and she's really Americanized, as showcased by the random expletives she'll hit me with. One day after a noisy class, she sighed heavily and said "Oh man, those fucking bastards wouldn't shut up!" Imagine this coming from a Japanese woman and you'll understand why I was floored.

In an ichinensei class, one boy was heckling her the whole time. He kept saying that she should marry me, because she's still single at 27 and she doesn't want to die alone, right? She gave him a harsh, "Shut up kid," in Japanese, and this almost worked. A few minutes later, he leaned in and asked her to come closer, which she did. When she was close enough, he asked, "Are you still a virgin?"

The smack she gave him was instantaneous. I mean, the words had barely escaped his mouth and already her hand was on its way back from having whacked him. I've never seen anyone move that fast.

But then she turned to me and, in English, says "Can you believe this kid?! How old does he think I am? Of course I'm not a virgin!"

And they always say the Japanese are a reserved and private people.

OK. I'll stop now. I love Japan.

Japan's culture is just a warning to the rest of the world to not use nuclear weapons ever, ever again. Look what was created. I mean fuck, tentacle rape cartoons?

Oh yeah Kalsonik, see if you can get out to Ebisu Circuit or Suzuka

OR. If you're there during September 8, 9, and 10, you can catch the JGTC/SuperGT races at Twin Ring Motegi! That's the only thing I'd ever go to Japan for.

All I can say is take a LOT of pictures! I've always wanted to go to Tokyo...from what I've seen it's fucking gorgeous. I love the Japanese street fashion they have going on there too.

Have a great trip!
