The Knife!

Have anybody heard of this awesome duo?
The Knife are Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer(ryksopp - what else is there?). They are from Sweden and have made music together since 1999
if you like electro - then check them out!!

hardhouse? wtf? :O

and yeah The Knife is an excellent swedish duo which totally rocked the Swedish music scene when their album Deep Cuts was released in 2003. It was a straight punch in the face which the then so boring and predictable music scene here didn't expect. Not only did they do brilliant tunes but they were also awarded for some of the best videos that year (Heartbeats, Pass this on etc).

They also borrow alot of similarities with The KLF. Very rarely do they actually show their faces and they don't do any live gigs (except for a couple of audio visual stage appearances). Funny thing is that when they were awarded a Grammis for Best pop group of 2003(annual award for best music prestation) here in Sweden everyone thought that they were finally going to show their faces but they boycotted the ceremony by sending two representatives of another artist group dressed as gorillas with the number 50 written on their costumes. They did this as a protest against male dominance within the music industry.

In press interviews they alway appear like

I saw them live this summer.
So of course they do live.
But they had gasmasks on.
They put up a really cool show
I would'nt call it hardhouse.. I actually want it call it industrial.. but then again... that kinda music does'nt really follow any "rules".. and therefor it's hard to "label" it.
Still, I had a great time and it was awsome!
I higly recommend them!

The Knife - We share our mothers' health (Trentemller Remix) <3

And yes, they're a great Swedish non-hardhouse duo. "Heartbeats" is my fav original track by them - love the music video too.

Posted by bobba lou on Aug-16-2006 14:14:

they will be doing a 3 day US tour soon, for those stateside.

Posted by chesco on Aug-16-2006 15:13:

Silent shout + the remixes are superb.

Posted by alieu on Aug-18-2006 21:13:

ok. i see people bashing me for calling it hardhouse. so what is it then? i think the sound is unique and very hard to defind

Don't worry, man. Their sound is a bit hard to define, but it's not hardhouse.
Check out Fergies Essential mix from 2001 for some hardhouse.

Minimal/tech house I'd say; the song Silent Shout reminds me of Hugg & Pepp - Snabeln, another cult classic.

how about its just good music

Posted by Matt on Aug-19-2006 05:29:

Silent Shout sat on my shelf for awhile... then I got around to listening to it... and it's definitely an enjoyable and unique sound.

Posted by SolemnThirsty on Aug-19-2006 05:47:

'heartbeats' is massive and I can't stop listening to 'forest families' and 'you take my breath away' some of there other stuff just plainly freak me out!

I love this tune but its kind of a love/hate relationship. I think its got a good amount of energy and its a fun dancable tune but in some spots the vocals bug me.

"We came down from the north
Blue hands and a torch
Red wine and food for free
A possibility
We share our mothers' health
It is what we've been dealt
What's in it for me?
Fine
Then I'll agree"

I'm not entirely sure who did the vocals for this tune but the way the singer sounds just bugs me.

However...

"Say you like it
Say you need it
When you don't
Looking better
Shining brighter
Than you do"

That part, especially with the fucked up pitch, along with the build and the rest of the tune, sounds bomb

I like one of their recent tracks "Marble House"

Rex The Dog was supposed to do a remix of it, though I havent heard it yet, should be interesting to see what he could do with the bleak melodic track.

Posted by AndskiSpeed on Aug-20-2006 19:19:

id highly recommend deep cuts to anyone
great band[?]
