JonBenet's killer arrested.

Yeah, the media has never been known to lie or fabricate stories for whatever reason. They completely created the entire story that JonBenet was killed by her parents, despite any real evidence. The parents (who lived in my hometown long ago) were humiliated, dragged through the mud and accused of killing their daughter. Anyway, pretty amazing that they caught the guy 10 years after the fact. Apparently Patsy Ramsey was informed before her death a couple of months ago that they were pursuing this guy and planned to arrest him.

I did it!

Accused JonBenet killer says death accident

An American primary school teacher accused of the grisly Christmas 1996 murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey said on Thursday he loved the child beauty queen and her death was an accident.

John Mark Karr, 41, arrested in Thailand on Wednesday in a dramatic twist in the case that has gripped the U.S. media, was charged with murder, kidnapping and sexual abuse of a child.

"I loved JonBenet," Karr told reporters Bangkok in his first public comment since his arrest. "She died accidentally." When asked if he had killed the girl, he appeared to shake his head.

Karr, slender, sandy haired and dressed in a blue polo shirt and beige corduroy trousers, was impassive earlier as he was presented briefly at a news conference, encircled by police.

He was arrested on a U.S. Federal warrant in the presence of FBI officers after being followed for three weeks as he sought a job teaching English and Mathematics in Bangkok.

"We arrested him yesterday at an apartment not far from my office after having followed him for 21 days," Immigration Police chief Lieutenant-General Suwat Tumroungsiskul told Reuters. "During the arrest, we were accompanied by American officers. He has been in and out of Thailand a couple of times and the arrest warrant was issued just a couple of days ago," Suwat told reporters.

Police said Karr had applied for jobs at Bangkok's dozens of international schools. They had said earlier one had hired him.

"People like him are dangerous. We have criminals from all over the world running away from their home countries to look for teaching jobs in Thailand," Suwat said.

SWIFT EXTRADITION

U.S. media said Karr had been living in JonBenet's hometown of Boulder, Colorado at the time of the murder. The child was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her home on December 26 1996.

Bangkok-based U.S. Homeland Security official Ann Hurst told the news conference Karr would be extradited quickly from a country where the process can take weeks.

"He will be removed to the United States within a week," she said. She said Karr had been very cooperative with police and had displayed "a variety of emotions" since his arrest.

The case grabbed big headlines from the start and Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy said the arrest followed "several months of a focused and complex investigation."

At the time of JonBenet's murder, a note was left on a staircase of the family home saying she had been kidnapped by a "small foreign faction" who wanted $118,000 in ransom.

JonBenet's parents, John and Patsy, came under suspicion during the initial investigation and in 2002 they reached an out-of-court cash settlement with a former detective who wrote a book accusing them of murdering their own daughter.

Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in June. The couple had been informed of the progress of the investigation that led to Karr's arrest.

"So Patsy was aware that authorities were close to making an arrest in the case and, had she lived to see this day, would no doubt have been as pleased as I am with today's development almost 10 years after our daughter's murder," John Ramsey said.

Ramsey told KUSA-TV in Denver that, to the best of his knowledge, he was not acquainted with Karr.

No charges were ever filed in the decade since JonBenet was killed, but the murder generated intense media coverage drawn by JonBenet's success in youth beauty pageants, the family's wealth and mysterious elements of the case, including the note.

I don't know about this one, his ex wife is reported as stating that He was with her and her family in Alabama on the night in question....
I heard that in MSNBC just a few mins ago, waiting to see if they post up

should be interesting

Posted by Shakka on Aug-17-2006 16:36:

Why would he admit to it 10 years after the fact if he was in Alabama at the time of the murder (in Colorado)? I haven't been watching any non-stop news coverage on the story, I just heard about it yesterday, but it sounds like they were on to this guy for a while and he admitted to doing it. What had you heard to the contrary (other than the ex-wife commentary)?

EDIT: I see on Drudge now what you're talking about. How odd. This should make for even more interesting TV. Let's see what the media does with it!

I can tell you what's going on here.

This guy got arrested in Thailand on child prostitution charges and the like.

Thaiwanese jails are NOT very nice places to be.

The guy is obviously a little crazy. He's also not stupid. He doesn't want to stay in Thailand's jail system, it's one of the worst in the world.

The solution?

He's been obsessed with this JonBenet girl for years. He's crazy.

Extradition to the United States means two things:

1. He is no longer in Thailand. In Jail there.

2. He can not be sent BACK to Thailand. Why? His visa has been repealed. They will NOT accept him back.

Yada yada, we find out he's crazy and lying (but he's HERE now and OUR problem), we send him off to a mental institution for a few years.

By the way -- I don't think he actually admitted to any reporters that he killed her.

He said vague, shady remarks like "It was an accident..."

We'll see what happens...

He looks crazy.

He's probably really soft spoken, and just all-around creepy.

I say he did it.

The media? Huh? I thought much of this speculation was largely driven by Governor Bill Owens (R) and the local police? What are you saying? That Bill Owens or the police lied or fabricated these stories? Logically that must be the case ...

They ran with the story. However, if the same media is somehow able to crack the Natalie Holloway disappearance, I'll take back some of what I said.

Edit: I caught a bit of the E! True Hollywood documentary show about the whole case. Actually quite interesting.

No offense to the Ramsey family, but this seriously does not deserve the attention of national and network news over issues like Iran's latest military/nuclear exercises and the Israel/Lebanon/Hezbollah mess.

Yeah but the fact that people give a crap more about the JonBenet Ramsey case, which doesn't directly affect their lives, over something like our problems with Iran which could potentially affect us all, I wonder how the mass media figures out its priorities for news stories and items...

Well until Iran or Israel does something interesting the media doesn't give a fuck.

So what I would suggest you do, as a Jew, is attack some Muslims in the middle east, ya know, convince some people to go bomb or rape and pillage a refuge camp, etc.

Muslims, go blow yourselves up and cause some random carnage to piss off the Jews.

Oh and if you are going to commit to wiping each other off the face of the planet, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO IT, THE WORLD WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH OUT BOTH YOUR FUCKING RIDICULOUS KIND. JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND LET THE REST OF THE RELATIVELY SANE WORLD CONTINUE ON DOWN ITS PATH!

(this is in no way saying religions other than those of the Jewish and Muslims people are any better, you all suck, but you are the worst at the moment!)

I'm sorry, it wasn't a Jew that was responsible for the U.S.'s predicament in Iraq. Israel was doing just what it was supposed to until the fucking UN had to stick it's corrupt nose into this.

Well I mean really ... the governor conveys that the killers are the Ramseyes, the local police is instigating that the killers are the ramseys, I simply don't know what your beef is. Shouldn't you be directing your ire towards the governor or the police instead of the media? The media is simply doing what they do best and that's reporting juicy stories. If anybody is guilty of fabrication or lying it's the aforementioned parties. So I assume you have a poor opinion of Bill Ownens?

I don't think I really have a beef other than to point out that the media put a magnifying glass on a false story and blew it way out of proportion. Aren't they supposed to do some actualy reporting on facts or do they just take one possible theory with little evidence and run with it? It's more commentary on the sad state of our culture than on any personal "beef" with the media. For all we know OJ could really be innocent! I keeed, I keeed.

I actually don't have an opinion of Bill Owens. I just have a problem with the way the court of public opinion works--particularly when it is guided and influenced by so much bullshit coming out of the media. Bill Owens may have said something, but the media could've done a better job of uncovering facts before jumping (and causing just about everyone to jump to conclusions with them) to the conclusion that 2 parents are guilty of murdering their child. Hell, this case just gets weirder and weirder.

Here's the formula:

Pretty + white + female + dead = gold!

Natalie Holloway or Lacy Peterson anyone?

I've mostly given up on TV "news."

I want to know what the fuck a father of 3 is doing in Thailand getting his facial hair removed to pave way for a radical sex change operation! What. The. pFuck. I think this guy may just have a strong prediliction for taking it in the ass.

Karr Waives Extradition To Colorado
Former Teacher Told Police He Was There When JonBenet Ramsey Died

POSTED: 6:30 am CDT August 22, 2006
UPDATED: 2:58 pm CDT August 22, 2006
LOS ANGELES -- John Mark Karr waived his right Tuesday to challenge extradition to Colorado, where he faces possible murder charges.

The suspect in the slaying of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey waived extradition in a brief hearing in Los Angeles, where he was represented by a public defender. When asked by the judge if he understood his rights under the extradition waiver, Karr said: "Yes, your honor."

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office had charged him with being a fugitive from justice. The complaint notes that Karr, 41, was charged with murder in a warrant issued last week in Boulder, Colo.

The court said Boulder authorities have until Sept. 6 to pick up Karr. On Sunday, Karr voluntarily accompanied authorities on a flight from Thailand to California, where he has since been jailed.

Lawyer: Photo Proves Karr Was Not In Colorado

A 1996 photo of a Karr family holiday gathering is giving the family more reason to believe John Karr couldn't have been with 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey when she was killed at the same time in Boulder.

Gary Harris, the lawyer for Karr's relatives, told The Denver Post and The Washington Post Karr's father has found a photo of Karr's three sons during the Christmas dinner in Atlanta. He said the family is certain that if the sons were there, then Karr would have been there, too.

Harris said the photo is from 1996 because an infant pictured in it was born in the same month of the same year.

Karr's second wife, Lara Knutson, has said he did not miss family Christmases. The couple, who lived in Alabama at the time, are now divorced.

Meanwhile, all that stands between Karr and the last leg of his journey from Thailand to Colorado is a brief court appearance.

Karr is scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday morning in Los Angeles for a procedural hearing. If he doesn't fight extradition, Boulder authorities will soon be able to take him to the city where Ramsey was slain a decade ago.

The 41-year-old teacher has told reporters he was with JonBenet when she died in the basement of her Boulder home on Dec. 26, 1996, and that her slaying in her home's basement was an accident. Little is publicly known, however, about what evidence Boulder officials have against him.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has not been asked to compare any evidence from Karr with evidence taken from the Ramsey crime scene.

Los Angeles County jail officials said Karr met with various lawyers Tuesday to discuss the extradition hearing. They included lawyers from the public defender's office and San Jose attorney Patience Van Zandt, who represented Karr on child pornography charges in 2001 in northern California.

Van Zandt said that Karr planned retain a lawyer when he gets to Boulder.

Media Wants Documents Unsealed

A Colorado district attorney plans to oppose media organizations' requests to unseal arrest warrants and other documents documents involving Karr.

News organizations want access to the arrest warrant and other documents involving Karr.

The court filing in Colorado said there is great public interest in whether the former Alabama teacher's arrest solved the case or is yet another "mistake."

The district attorney's office in Boulder said it will oppose unsealing the records because the case is still under investigation.

Colorado Residents Bristle

Karr's lavish flight from Thailand to California doesn't sit well with some Boulder residents who may wind up footing the bill.

A 25-year-old bookstore employee in Boulder said he doesn't think the suspect in JonBenet Ramsey's slaying should be, as he put it, "schmoozing on the taxpayers' dime."

Brandon Pelcher said Karr's sips of champagne and dining on roast duck and chocolate cake seem "like another twist in a crazy saga."

Authorities said Karr volunteered to return to the United States and wasn't really a prisoner until he got off the plane. Since arriving in Los Angeles, he has been housed alone in what sheriff's officials call a "high power" cell for noteworthy inmates and is checked by guards every 15 minutes.

Earlier Probe Offered No Clues

A 2001 investigation into child pornography charges against Karr turned up no clues clearly tying him to the Ramsey murder, according to the Sonoma County, Calif., sheriff.

Karr was arrested in April 2001 on five misdemeanor counts of possessing child pornography.

The sheriff's remarks came after a woman described in court documents as a police informant said she exchanged e-mails and taped more than 20 hours of phone conversations with Karr shortly before his 2001 arrest.

Cogbill would not verify Hutchens' account, citing the Boulder district attorney's ongoing murder investigation. But he said he expects to speak with Colorado authorities this week.

Another Doctor Confirms Sex-Change Rumors

A doctor in Thailand said JonBenet Ramsey's suspected killer wanted his facial hair permanently removed in advance of a sex-change operation.

The dermatologist said John Karr had his sideburns and chin hair removed with lasers to prepare for sex-change surgery.

Another doctor at a Bangkok clinic specializing in sex-change surgery revealed Sunday that Karr was one of his patients.

The Thai capital where Karr lived on and off for two years is a popular center for gender reassignment operations, where such surgery is advertised for as little as $1,700.
