Gabber kick

Ive been searching the forums a couple times now with no good results.

I know gabber isnt the kind of style you guys like but i bet theres someguy who likes it and know how to make that gabber kick, im close to getting where i want with the kicks i can make but its still not...right...

I make them with using the fm synthesis funktion im soundforge and there was a tutorial on how to make a regular trance d/t/p kick, the gabber kick has a longer release and LOTS more dist and compression.

Ill post a sample asap, but i want your ideas and listen to the sounds youve got.

Help and no flaming is greatly apreciated.

I always used to use a straight 909 kick, whack the low eq up, and distort it by overdriving the channel with the gain. Then add some compression to taste.

Gabber sucks.

I was about to write down the same answer as Freak, but then he was first ;P

yeah ive been there but i havent managed to get the long tail like you get with the synthesis.

ah well...

heres my idiot attempts.

The first "gabber" 123 are made of a long square wave and pitched and disted and pitched and fiddled with more than a virgins clit.

sorry for the rar.Gabber.rar

Richt schlick undt savve!

Square wavs for kicks? :S That might be your problem right there, you should use sines.

Posted by Crash on Aug-17-2006 17:10:

the fourth one is sine.

edit: er... "lameshit" is sine.

Yeah, try distorting it. Distortion makes a sine to become more and more like a square, that's why the squares sounds more like gabber kicks. But if using squares you won't get that tail. So, sines with distortion should do it.

I don't know really, I never tried gabber kicks, but I now the sound and that's just what it sounds like. Also, try a different dist-VST. Most dists are not made for kicks, so try different ones ands see which sounds best.

Go to the mod archive here http://www.modarchive.com/waveworld/drums.shtml

Get the Tr-909 pack, pick a kick with a long tail, do what freak said.

You'll end up having to cut the tail anyway surely?

Posted by Crash on Aug-17-2006 17:20:

I dont really cut the tail thats something i solve inside fruity loops. Envelope and such.

Anyway, thanks for the replies but imo the 909 trick doesnt really do it for me.

god damn im an ass...

Here is a kick I made ages ago. Dunno if it will be useful to you; I haven't heard gabber for years.

gabber is a dutch word which stands for friend.

this is pretty much the real thing

it`s sampled from a song i don`t know.

use it, tweak it, don`t abuse it

Posted by Synchronicity on Aug-17-2006 21:51:

I never knew that's what gabber meant! I used to always listen to it, now I just play the odd track for a laugh/nostalgia

Posted by Synchronicity on Aug-17-2006 22:38:

Ok Crash,

Here is the 909 kick BTAAADA.wav from the modarchive pack starting at normal volume and being raised 10db at a time in soundforge.

[[ LINK REMOVED ]]

It finishes up as a very usable gabber kick.

909 or similar samples, maybe a distortion unit or plug-in is all you need.

pretty good job sync

Posted by Crash on Aug-18-2006 12:14:

Thanks for all the help guys.

ill post more of my attemps.

Posted by mysticalninja on Aug-18-2006 20:20:

Yeah those ones you made in soundforge are horrible.. Stick to distorting samples. Distorting long 909 kicks is probably how they were originally made. Listen to how much fatter Synch's or Ben's is, now thats a fat kick. Listen to the difference in low-end between them, that's what makes a kick.

Posted by Sexomatic on Aug-19-2006 18:28:

its very easy.. just get a good distortion plug from kvraudio.com test it out on any kick and mess around , here is something i did http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.p...45DBD11054540DF
