The end of your shirt and a little air from your mouth? That's what I always use.

half rubbing alcohol, half distilled and put it in a mist bottle.

When I had TTs I bought the cleaning kit. With a felt brush, carbonfiber brush and a bottle of fluid. I think wiping a vinyl with your shirt just gets the dust deep into the grooves, correct me if Im wrong

GuveGlide is good, but its a once or twice thing. You dont want to use it to clean your records every time. Its more of a treatment to keep dust from sticking. Read the can.

I'm confused. Why do you need to clean the serato vinyl? It has no sound quality issue right? So then just a basic cloth would be all you require to clean off the obvious finger marks, not that they matter.

Actually its just the opposite. You want to keep your Serato control records very clean. They see much more use that a normal record would. You want to keep the records clean so they last and give you the best performance. This goes for any record. I quick wipe with your shirt may get you buy, but your not doing your self any favors in the long run. There is no sound issue but there is a control signal issue. The Serato program is reading a signal off that record, and the better that signal is the better Serato will operate.

So what exactly does the serato vinyl look like? I had a look at their site but didn't find a pic. What I'm getting at is is it like a regular groove with a constant tone or is it a series of pits. I've not seen one up close.

It looks and feels just like a normal vinyl. Thats because it is one. You're right about the constant tone. If you play it thats all you hear, but the Serato program is able to detect the changes in this tone interpret it, and make the corresponding changes to the song you are playing off your computer. Its amazing, you can lift the needle and place it anywhere on the record and Serato can instantly tell where on the record the needle is and start the song at that point. Just like a real vinyl.

How's it do that? Is the tone SMPTE or something?

I don't know exactly how it does it but it can. You may want to ask on the Serato forum over on ranes web site.

you can make this yourself

just buy some demineralised water (i don't know if i translated this correctly) and isopropanol
4/5 water and 1/5 isopropanol

you can also just use bleach

can someone please confirm this is right

Posted by Allen Mueller on Aug-21-2006 01:26:

I have no idea about the bleach, but i'd stay away just on the fact if you get it on your cloths you can kiss the color good bye.

I've been using 1/2 rubbing alcohol 1/2 distilled water for some time now with good results.
