Balancing school and work [LF: a job]
[blush]
yeah yeah gayest thread i've ever made....
I would like to possibly find a job that pays $12/hr or even more plus benefits. is this sort of thing possible? I've always worked in the restaurant industry, never left. [i'm also fully aware i'm not really qualified for a higher wage job]
Is it possible to find a job that pays this much AND BALANCE SCHOOL? or would it mean I would have to stop school and work fulltime to order to get a job like that.
How do you guys do it? I know TONS OF YOU DO THIS!
Advice? Suggestions? or stupid comments welcome.
thanks tota.
oh another question... is anyone doing an apprenticeship?
[/blush]
Sell dope? Sex?
I've been working full-time throughout college and now university. School was always part-time, but I did manage to do 4 courses a semester while in college. In university, 2 is a good number, sometimes 3 if it's an easier mix of classes.
I'm assuming you want to move away from the restaurant industry? Perhaps look into an administrative type of job through an agency, that should land you in and around $12/hr

Thanks Max. I appreciate it.
it's really stressful balancing both work and school, especially during university and college, but breathe deep and all will be a - ok!
I balanced a full time job at a hotel in toronto aND went to school for new media arts at ryerson University - it was so stressful and I managed to have two anxiety attacks (they are fukkin' scary~) anyways, I had a little social life and was working alll the time.
Good luck with School Kids!

if you were in the restaurant business then i'd suggest bartending b/c depending where you're working you can make way more than 12/hr and you don't need many shifts a week to be making good moneys. only thing is you need smart serve which you prolly already have and it would be helpful to take a course in it. and like graham said... connections connections connections! gl tho!
wheres my nando sauce?

Its all about sacrifice in my opinion. You can get a very good part time job that pays well and still manage your education; you just wont have much free time if you plan on doing both successfully.
So if youre okay with sacrificing some social time during your study, youre good to go.

| Originally posted by Misanthrope you really think so eh? I thought bartenders had longer shifts. At one point I did consider becoming one... thanks for the suggestion though. I do have my smart serve. yeah it is ALWAYS ABOUT CONNECTIONS! fack, I thought it would be different - but no. always come down to that crap. Evil_cookie - you are totally right - I think I maybe have to finally scarifice whatever little social life i had to begin with. lame. |
it's perfectly do-able... i did it for most of uni. i don't know about all types of businesses out there, but my company offered flexibility for people who were in school such that their working hours were managed around their class time.
feel free to let me know if you're still looking and i can let you know if i hear of any hirings here.

| Originally posted by monkey_keymo well when i do days i work 8 hour shifts... nights are usually 6-7 hours and you tend to make more. but it depends what you're aiming for. w/ bartending you could work 2 days a weeks in a fast paced club and make 5 or 6 hundred easy... i work in a slower paced place but i take care of the whole floor. i make less than i would be making in a club but i enjoy it cuz i get to kno my customers... ranting lol. but yea try it out if you can moneys good ppl are generally good. |
