Help! Where do I begin?

Hi!
My 10 year son is interested in DJing and I do not know where to begin. Any suggestions?

Besids the search function...
I would get my terms and equipment correct with a website like wikipedia.com
Then get some software like virtual dj thats cheap.
If he isnt bored of it in a few years then spend some money on cdjs.
Most important thing.
Develope a taste in music.

It might be worth trying to find out what angle he's coming from. Being 10 he will most certainly have one.

Try and find out what actually got him interested... Did he someone mixing or scratching as this will have a large impact on what he needs to get going.
Find out what music he's into first, then we will be able to give you more pointers.
I have pretty much DJayed in most scenarios and music styles so will be able to give you at the least a basic idea of what you need.

Avoid the digital option at the moment till you find out what music style he likes. And why he wants to DJ.

Regards
Nem

maybe try 1 of the numark box sets to start of with 2 c if he likes it. if he starts to get good and really likes djing after a yera or 2 then upgrade 2 something better at that point

i'd go with this one. It's how I started and I'm 35. I like the music, learned the basics here and on DJ Recess site (google search). Then I downloaded a lot of free software, played around for six months, found I was still interested so bought second hand CDJs off ebay. Encourage your son, a creative interest at this age is great. A few years from now, he'll have an explosion of energy. Music will help him channel it.

First make sure he's doing good in school. If not, don't even consider giving him a dj set. That's a vey time consuming hobby!
