give an example of how they are the worlds biggest assholes? When I went to Paris the people seemed friendly, but the city was dirty the Parisians use to just toss their garbage to the side of the streets or anywhere in the park but the garbage bags.

I live in France and have for most of my life and I will say yeah they are arseholes but you get used to it.
There is always a barrier between people with the tu ( you )and the vous ( they ) ( speaking to people you don't know or people you are supposed to 'respect' you refer to them in the third person ); people are agressive and arrogant. They always complain.
There's plenty of concrete examples I could give you but I can't be arsed ( sorry I'm being french there
).
Recently a friend of my family who does humanitarian work and stuff between Ukraine, Hungary and Romania was telling me how shocked she had been with the behavior she saw from people in France. If you were to see 'barbaric' behavior you'd expect it to be in a country like Romania perhaps ( well one would be lead to believe that as they aren't as economically advanced as France but that's another debate ).
In the streets of Paris this guy wanted to cross the street where there was no passage way for pedestrians. This lady didn't let him cross and so he kicked her side door as hard as possible and she wasn't too pleased to see her Mercedes damaged.
She got out of the car and attempted to fist fight the idiot.
I see tons of uncivilized behavior on a daily basis.

I am by no means a fan of France - quite the contrary - but there are things where it is superior to the US, so your cliche is really irritating. One such thing is that people are secular and not religious. Another is more relaxed attitudes to sex.
BTW, have you even been to France? Only if the answer is "yes" can your question be taken seriously.

A country who represses/restricts religious belief versus another one who some might view as trying to impose its religious beliefs at home and abroad.
Which one is better?

France does not restrict personal religious belief - it only suppresses visible expression of it in public places, which can cause disturbances.
That secularism is a lot better and healthier is a fact I won't go into here (the word "fact" comes from the scientific study posted by Occrider where religion was compared in different countries).

People work 35 hour weeks so that makes for very weird store hours.
Monday and sunday are closed.
Stores ( this depends on the size of the store and usually applies to the smaller shops ) are closed between noon and 1.30 pm.
Stores do close around 7 pm for the smaller shops. 8 or 9 pm for larger shops, but that also depends on the day of the week ( friday and saturday are sometimes a little later like 9 pm)

From what I know, nightclubs in America close at 2 am. (And in the very very advanced progressive city of NYC, at 4 am.)
From what I know, nightclubs in France (and all of Europe for that matter) close at 6-7 am.

This depends from one city to another mostly due to local governement policies, this applies state side and France side.
You cannot generalize like that.
In the States you will commonly find last call hour restrictions set by local governing authorities, in France you will find closing times restrictions by local governing authorities as well.
Here in my local city in France everything MUST be closed at 2 am or they get a fine and can potentially get their alcohol license revoked.

Right. Canada is not as backward as the US but still far behind the rest of the world in this respect.

Trancaholic, I disagree with the "very friendly" bit.

the french can be quite friendly if you speak french. they didnt like me however since i speak quebecois..... and they regard this as a primitive dialect. i shudder to think that they think quebecois as primitive and i know they have never heard of acadian or joile lol

I wasn't trying to make an argument.
I was just saying that because I definately wouldn't survive there. I need 24 hour services from convenience stores at all times.

It must be that I am from Texas you ask such a question....
"Well yes mam, I have been to France, once in Uniform and two other times as a , how do you say.... a "Stupid American Tourist."
but if I have not, I still cannot see why a person never going to france is an issue, My question was not about France, but why france was doing what they are today. I mean if was to ask the inner core temp of the Sun, how silly would it be for someone to ask, " only if I had visited the sun, may my question be worth an answer."
