Random phase issues?
I don't know what the problem with my track is, but for some reason my kick randomly drops out of my track. I know for sure that it should be playing. Here goes the full track tell me if you have any ideas. I'm TOTALLY clueless right now.

The bass sound seems way too strong to me. Maybe it's interfering with the kick?
The bass is at -8dB peaking like the kick, but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.
You should use your ears! don't trust the peaks.
To me there is some sounds that are way too loud and the kick isn't liud enough and doesn't have enough low end. Try compress it more and boost it a little.
The running bass (really nice) should have some low end too, but the bass that come and leave is too present. this one should not have as low end as it currently have.
The synth that comes just before 2:00 is cool.
I have the same problem with my latest track.
It's really depressing.
Eldritch: I think it's a phasing issue. I turned off most of my effects and it went away. The problem is now stuck at either the stereo imagers, phasers, flangers, or chorus effects im using. Try that out on your track.
everyMan: Yeah I know I should use my ears. The final mixdown hasn't been set yet, but it's OKAY for working on some creative pc speakers lol. I'll work on the kick being louder, the main problem right now is mainly the atmospheres and pads taking up too much headroom. Thanks for the criticism. I'll work on that too.
phaser flanger and chorus can all fuck that up
i just listened and its actually good....just throw in some loud pounding kick and its perfect.......trance is not pop music so dont mix it how your 'supposed too'.......mix it to sound good.....just throw in a good kick and make it loud.
Thanks man. Yeah I just started working on a good kick and I'd say it's sounding amazing now.
is there a cure for v-station's random phasing issue?
v-station has a phase issue? what's the problem with yours?
vstation has a few problems.....de-activate all other vsti's and listen to how much noise the v-station makes without even playing your track...
yeah... the phasing effect causes spikes in the volume... it doesn't sound smooth... i'll post a sample of the problem when i get back home later today
alright sounds good
Is the kick peaking at roughly -8.0 dB? That the kick disappears at 1:33 isn't a phase issue, but it sounds more like an actual rendering error. Your main problem, though, is masking related, in that your kick is far too low in volume, so turn everything but the kick and bass down and your bass-end will get the power it needs. Then, turn the bass swell down by miles, because I really don't know what you're doing there (the level is overloading, and if your kick is peaking at -8.0 dB, the mix generally shouldn't go above -3.0 dB). The low bell-like sound fading in during the break is also much too loud.
How are you monitoring this actually? You really need to put more emphasis on the bass-end.
Atlantis-AR: If only I had some real monitors or even decent speakers then I could monitor much better. Right now I can really only monitor by levels. I am using some Creative T2900 PC speakers which are FAR from great speakers to use for my productions. I'm waiting to invest into some good dynaudios or something sometime.
The kick is peaking at -8dB as it should. The bass is around -10dB itself now. I think it was peaking around -8dB also with the kick. I'll just turn down the overall levels on the channels because you're right...the bass end isn't getting where it should because the highs and mids are overloading the mix.
I found out why my kick was doing the thing it was too. It was actually the Voxengo HarmoniEQ that I was using. It was making the kick go down to like -20dB or so for some reason. I got rid of it and the mix is definitely going to sound much better when I post the final version for this track.
Thanks for all the advice guys it's really helped me out a TON.

alright well the bass level on my sub is kinda low I don't have it turned up all that much, but maybe it is turned up too much. I'll compare it to some other tracks and see what i come up with.
I turns out a pluck synth line in my track was spiking. (Bad compressor settings)
Thanks.
Bleh...
I don't get this why you should have your kick peaked at -8db and the bassline at -10db etc. Every mix is unique... your sound is unique, your mix should be unique. As long as you don't recieve digital distortion you should be fine. If you get your mix right without distortion, you'll fix the levels with some good masterbus compression and you won't have to squash the sound... I mean... people won't hear or won't care about the level diffrence of your track and other commercial ones... and if a record label would show intressed in your track im pretty sure they'll tell you what needs to be done...
Okay if you have a phasing problem with your kick but man ... fix the problem with your ears instead of relying on visual monitoring... and if it can't be fixed with your current samples/synths/effects/eq settings, then you might have to try some new ones out?
And please enlighten me if i missed something...
This became a bit harsh, but Im not angry...really

| Originally posted by Atlantis-AR The kick peaking at -8.0 dB is a reference point for getting your mix to peak no higher than -3.0 dB. All other levels will be unique, but it's important you get the kick level right so you're not running the risk of clipping the mix later. |
