well dang, my review was deleted
so i guess my review of trance nation at the plaza club last night was deleted with the original promo thread lol
thats too bad
but i figured i'd make a new thread stating that i still want two hours of my life back.
who would have thought i'd be going to check out a supposedly good trance/prog DJ, who seemed to be a pretty cool guy in person, just to spend the evening listening to hard trance being played by an opening DJ (no names) who wasn't even on the bill and didnt seem to want to allow pros do the job properly.
im sure christine and rich did a great job warming things up for alex paris tagging for an hour they were left, bringing the BPM down to where it should be before a headliner steps up. (wasn't rich a special guest opener ?) and im confident alex played a good set as well. it's just too bad that people who made the effort to come had to endure the beats of anthemic hard trance at 10 o'clock in the evening
what was the promoter thinking?!
and actually, people who paid to get in, should get their money back too
im curious to know tho, who won the trip to TO?
No CD or t-shirt either *sigh*
maybe the promoter took off on that john deere mower with the shirts, never to come back
Apri_Peel which DJ wasn't on the bill? All the DJ's who were there were on the bill and again your information is wrong. Every DJ who was at the party were booked and there was no one there who wasn't on the bill.
I know you felt like you seen someone spinning who wasn't on the bill but that person was. I know trance was playing hard`at the beginning which shouldn't have happend but people who I talked to didn't have a problem with it at all but if the hard trance bothered you I apologize.
At the end of the night people came up to the DJ booth and gave all the DJ's a good review sayen they loved the music.
If people enjoyed the music that all it matters because its all about good music.
There were cd giveaways and the t-shirts were given out.
Hi April. Sorry I did not get to meet you so that I can give you the shirt I had promised. I did find out after that you were the one leaving when I speaking with Eris, You should have mentioned something. Anyways, you are right about the openin dj. We tried to tell her and I think she thought it was ok. She also was on the bill but I don't think she understood the night. About the t-shirts, We did give them away. It's to bad you weren;t there to receive one but you should have mentioned to me that you were april and you would have received one. I gave 15 out right before and after my set. Thank youfor thinking I am a nice guy but I wish you would have stayed a little longer. Oh well, maybe on my next trip there. If you still need a shirt and or a cd let me know by send you're address to [email protected]. Thanks!
I think in the end, you can probably chalk this up as a learning experience. You seem to be genuine people trying to add something to the music scene here in Van but just needs to be better planned/organized. One of the main elements is the scheduling of DJs, their styles to fit with the time of night.
I did come down and I was honestly put off by what was being played when I got in and so were my friends who came down with me. I was there to check out Eris, Lazy Rich and Alex Paris and at 1130, all 3 were still outside wondering when they were playing. When doors open at 9pm sharp, something is definitely amiss.
Opening DJs must understand what they are booked to do, to setup the night and set it up properly for the DJs t follow. Your opening DJ scared off 4 or more customers. That's something to consider. I also saw the frustration in the faces of the other DJs trying to tell her something and she wasnt very responsive. That's just terrible DJ etiquette.
Good luck with future events and hopefulyl things turn out better next time.
we did have some problems with the system which kinda messed up the dj set times. But we resolved the issue but I agree we shouldn't have the Hard trance at the beginning and opening DJ's should know what to play at the beginning as thats why they are hired for but stuff happends all the time and next time we're gonna make sure no one plays hard trance in the beginning. We're here to have good music.
Jussed thanks for coming out and thanks for posting the comment
Enjoy the rest of your day
Live now on dropdaneedle.com with Alex Paris till 3:30 est time.
i'm tuned in crazy tunes
GEEEVE
Thanks.
my appologies for saying opener was not on the bill, i suppose she now has an official dj name. ive got nothing against her, she's a cool person but her style was far off what the headliner was to play and was definately not suitable for that kind of an atmosphere.
it's not so much whether the general public was not bothered by hard trance, it's more to do with doing your job properly. i dont care if when i go to safeway and the store employees are wearing random clothes, no uniforms and have no name tags, but, they are being unprofessional about their work, and thats the whole principal. hard trance is alright, ive got nothing against it, but it was very shocking to hear it. and the promoter should know exactly how a show has to run, from start to finish. just because you had a technical difficulty doesn't mean you can push back your headliner because you've got time restrictions that must be followed.
putting on a party is not as easy as many people think.
hope your future parties work out for the better. its a harsh scene out there, especially if you put on events in the downtown core.
alex, i hope your next trip to vancouver will turn out better. dont worry about a tshirt, im sure i can survive without
DJ's are hired for a reason April. They should know what to play and no to play Promoters are not DJ's but Alex set was good and the people who were there enjoyed his set.
Alex didn't get pushed back, we had to fix the system before he can go on to do his set.
But were not gonna make a huge issue off of this so its good you spoke out and I respect what you had to say so keep on raving
Alex Paris will be back
but this dj is well known to the promoter
and hard trance is what she plays
as a promoter, its your responsibility to know the talent you're booking and to also make sure that the dj plays what he/she is supposed to
an extreme example is josh from silverwaters kicking a headliner off a stage at summer break because she deviated slightly from what she was supposed to play, yelling at her and then refusing to pay her
anyhow, enough with this
next event to look forward to is BT
