In games it runs soo smooth.... nothing is wrong at all!:.
But when producing.... It's crashes ... and it's restarting.. and so on!:..
It's like, if I use about 5 VST Plugin's Then the cpu runs at 100% at all time!:. and the sound qual gets crappy!:.
I am considering buying a new computer... Maybe buy the parts bundle..

Re: Pentium or AMD ??? I have a problem!
Try and make sure you haven't got any crap running in the background.
It's always a good idea to have your music apps installed on a separate hard drive with a separate installation of windows if you can - then do dual boot with your main drive with all of your games, apps etc on
Just keep your music drive to Windows (with service pack 2, but don't bother with any Windows updates after that and disable the ethernet adapter on that install of Windows), music software and samples etc.
Download any samples or anything from the net when booted up with your other install, virus check them, then stick them in a folder you can copy across when you're back on your music boot.

newegg.com > tigerdirect.com
new egg ftw. I will be making a shuttle PC soon with a good amount of space (have tons of space on my xbox) and running dual boot. 1 linux for checking email, surfing, blah blah blah, (dont know what distro yet) and 2 windows, 1 music production and 1 games.

Don't bother with Dual Core for music production. There isn't any music production software out there that can actually make full use of it.
Sounds to me like you need to take a look at what you have running in the background and may also need to invest in some RAM. RAM is one of the keys to being able to work with lots of stuff.
What VSTs are you using?
As Stu said you may well want to have to separate installations for games and music.
Cheers
Nem
Thank you all!... =)
I just got me the Intel Core 2 Duo, And PC6400 Dual channel Rams
I just tried it out with 20 VSt and 9 FX
And it runs sooo smooth!:.
Processor not over 30 %
So now Im using:
M-Audio 24/96 Sound Card.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual Core 1066Mhz FSB CPU... (I'm recommending it to everyone btw hehe Great cpu )
Corsair Dual channel (PC6400) 800Mhz RAM ... Also Very good performance!:.
Thanks... everyone!.. =)
I would say proper drivers for everything.
I don't really see any reason why it was crashing for you (besides possibly bad software).
It's always a good idea to make sure your computer is not running a bunch of random processes; I think mine boots up with around 32 (including antivirus and firewall (AVG free edition and Kerio/Sunbelt Personal). Even now, I have 37 running, and that includes lots of additional programs running.
Im suprised that it took untill the last post to point out what it is.
Make sure you are running good asio drivers.
And check the sample rate and latency.
Your probably running the soundcard at 96k with a latency of 1ms or something.
im ruiing a AMD 64X2 3800+ with 2gb of ram i need a new mobbo then im set. im an AMD fan tho so id say AMD FTW.
Don't forget about number of samples/buffer size.
I have mine at a decent value, around 2048 or 4096. Something like that.
I am not a sound/producing expert, though.
dude,
stop visiting pr0n sites, and do something about that trojan and spyware shit.
