Looking for opinions on Jupiter 8

Wondering if Jupe 8 is hype or money. I read Harmonycentral and plenty other reviews online. Wondering if anyone who directly dealt with it would share their thoughts as to its worthiness for trance productions in light of VA gear currently available to me (NL3, Ti, AN1x).

Is it worth the money being asked for it or is it just all hype? At what price would you buy it or if you had it now how much would you sell it for?

I dont currently own a jupiter 8. But I have had the pleasure of playing one recently. And I also a jupiter 6 oberheim xpander, sequential circuits prophet 5, oberheim ob1m, and a sequential pro one. So i do have a good idea what it sounds like and relative prices of other synths.

I for one would love to own a jupiter 8 it makes some amazingly lush pads and plucked sounds. Not to mention it has some really punchy bass. Its a very versatile synth and can do pretty much anything. But it does have some problems. It goes out of tune quite often, it gets really hot, it is a very large, and replacement parts are costing more everyday.

A mint/excelent condition one would run 2500-3200. Good 1800-2500$.

the heat issue is due to the older type of transformer, which can certainly be modified. other thing to consider is that it does not have midi tho it can be sorted. Sounds great imo.

beast!
But cheap ones will be cheap for a reason.....these things are old, and can go wrong.

MKS-80 is almost the same thing and much much cheaper, and not only that has a slamming midi spec to boot.

I love mine at a level that makes my wife uncomfortable.. :-P

Well the mks80 is more like a jupiter 6 w/ a bass boost. THe jupiter 8 not to mentioned there are 2 different versions of the mks80 with different sounding filters.

MKS-80 is on the fence between the two, I wouldn't say it's closer to the 6 than the 8, or at least my old and crusty one isn't.

It is a hell of a lot cheaper, and is still a mile from the VAs..
