I really love tough play, but when things like this happens, It's just very sad.

It was a needless injury, for sure. Stupid by Thatcher.

yeah but there's a difference between a tough but fair tackle & all out assault mate. Will be interesting to see how this one goes.

such players dont deserve to play footbal IMO..

Disgusting, Ben thatcher is known for being a dirt c*nt aswell. I am amazed the Pompey players did nothing. i would of made sure that he wouldnt be able to walk off the pitch.

I hope mendes is okay. Spend the night in hospital and thy will be doing tests for th enxt week to make sure there are no problems.

Saw that one yesterday in matchof the day, outrageous foul. Should be suspended many matches, never had any intention to play the ball.
Do this on the street and you'll prolly end up in prison, on a pitch its 'part of the game' .

Yes he was yellow carded (unbelievably he wasn't sent off)!

I don't know how he wasn't sent off when we have a 4th official, referee, and 2 linesmen - somebody must have seen it

Horrible to watch. Thatcher is a known thug on the park, no-matter what people say about him off it, he shouldn't be allowed to play professionaly.

ben thatcher is a complete prick he should be banned from football its not like its the first time hes done this he has seriously injured players 3 or 4 times before. He injured a chinese player that ended up with a collapsed lung once.

Too right.
He ran in with no thought about the ball, if he wanted to stop that ball he would have jumped next to him to block where the ball was, but he obviously if you watch the video see that he isn't looking for the ball, or bothered about where it is.

Ban him, lock him up.

And Mendes?

Thatcher got a 4 game ban from Man City, and then the FA added a 6 game ban (I think)... Mendes has now fully recovered and is playing again for Pompey I think

i think he got a suspended 10 game ban or something aswell so if he gets in trouble again he will get banned for that ammount of games
